The sum of all those is what ends up being Nigerian accent. You have all influenced each other in small and big ways to the extent you sound the same all of you! I told your friend I watched Muslim people from Maiduguri speak during The Purge on brothels and they sounded as Nigerian as any.

Not really. It's our own idiosyncratic way of speaking. Irish people speak in their own way. Indians have their peculiar mannerisms. South Africans have theirs - whether Zulus or Afrikaners. Brazilian Portuguese has so evolved than the average Portuguese man doesn't understand it. The notion we must all speak like British people is pretty stewpid. Why would something that is part of who we are embarrass me. It's like telling a Khoisan in South Africa that their language with all the weird clicks doesn't sound human and asking them whether it's not embarrassing. Funny enough Khoisans think other groups' languages sound like monkey chatter. Perhaps, our way of speaking sounds childish to you. It doesn't to me who has heard it all my life.
