Jonraid:
Invest in lawns and do away with the cabros.
There is so much grey in your home pictures !

The well to do individuals typically live in neighbourhoods that have homes sitting on about 1.5-2 acre plots and which do not exceed one storey and the house's sorroundings are abundantly loadened with trees and nicely cut grass!

we build concretes b/cos cement is not our problem, soon we will start building cement roads.

Precisely. They really seem to hate any greenery except the occasional palm tree.

This house in Muthaiga Estate sells for 2.5 million US dollars

For those with good bank balances, it's not about how big your home is,or how modern it looks rather it is how expansive your lawn is!

Liveable houses are those you'll find in Nairobi. Not concrete monstrosities.

Less greenery is boring to the eyes. The pictures have no soul.

Well, our real estate market has been the magnet for the super rich in the Sub Saharan Africa! That tells you something about it!

We were in the Afcon

Kenya only qualified for the first time in their history and yet they are making crazy noise about it. Countries like that have won the afcon multiple times don't even make noise

Thanks to Rotich, it means that I'll have to fork out more to buy my first car. A new Prado in the Kenyan market costs nothing less than 100,000 dollars whilst in the Australia and Japanese market, the same unit would range from 45-50k US dollars.

I'm not complaining, this is a good move nonetheless. It's about time our local automotive industries benefit from this policy. One of the intentions of such a directive is to make imports expensive in the eyes of our own locally made cars.

In June 2018, Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed said that the government was set to block sale of vehicles aged above five years saying the move was aimed at boosting local car makers, calling for discussions with stakeholders.

Second car traders at the time criticized government’s proposals to impose new age limits on second hand vehicles imported into the country saying that lowering this period to five years will lead to a sharp drop in revenue and affect jobs.

Kenya, Algeria, Mozambique, Tunisia and Libya currently allow importation of used cars between age of six to eight while Countries such as Morrocco, Sudan and South Africa have a total ban of second-hand car imports.

The regulations by KeBS will be drafted by Tuesday, January 15 then after, the gazettement and enforcement later in June after budget reading.

According to Car Importers Association of Kenya (CIAK) chairman an average of over 24,123 used cars are imported into the country per month amounting to Sh13.5 billion(130.5 million US dollars) in revenue for the government.

That is Yemi Kale yarn.
"The country's economy has traditionally been dominated by oil and gas production (about 30–40% of pre-rebased GDP), but the rebasing revealed major growth in the services sector—including in telecommunications, banking, Nollywood, and the informal economy (which was previously unaccounted for in official statistics)."

I honestly don't see how telecommunication, banking, nollywood and informal economy(how do they measure it?) which appears to be twice kenya can be that huge. Kenya services sector is probably worth 60% of GDP - that is around 55B dollars..Nigeria service sector would be 2.5 times that - around 140B.Your agricluture is just overstated. Your manufacturing very puny. And then just add oil & gas industry.

Re-based GDP has two big lies
1) Agriculture is so over-stated it not even funny. Yemi Kale claims Nigeria has 80B dollars of Agriculture ( I am not talking Agriculture as industry - just basic crops & livestock production). That is size of Brazil - a well know tropical agricultural giant. How does Yemi Kale collect agriculture data - mostly through guesswork. Nigeria hardly export any food - apart from few cocoa nuts & shrimps.
2) Service sector is also inflated...nollywood & informal sector (how does that even work) smiley.

You have been shouting yemi kale for over a thousand page now, plus who the fvck is he?

Yarn isn't that Nigerian pidgin? Warri pidgin for that matter.. All Kenyans are desperately learning awa language and culture and desperately wish to be like us and talk like us

It takes big balls for a country to lower it's car year limit on importation. We will no longer import cars older than five years in Kenya.

It seems that one can still import a 1999 Volkswagen Passat model in Nigeria today! grin

I think they don't have limit. 5yr old car would be expensive for most kenyans and I see gov bending backwards. How about they start by banning importation of used clothes. That is long overdue. I know we might lose AGOA.

Maybe they will also lower the taxes they impose on all imported cars so as to not affect the general sales. The government wouldn't shoot itself in the foot at this time that it's looking for taxes everywhere! We were doing 8 years and the businesses were good, 5 years wouldn't send us to the hells. Bus owners and truckers complained that the SGR would send them out of business, this turned out to a big lie.We have survived the rate cap among other worst things than this !

The second hand clothes ban is coming, watch this space!

Yes,Kigali is the cleanest in East Africa that is due to a Tanzanian who heads the ministry of infrastructure in Rwanda.

Yes Kenya pop growth rate last I checked was 2.7% - I think the aim should be have pop growth around 1-2% - and then try to stick there. Anything less than 1% or a decline then become problematic. So if India is already on 2% - then it's indeed hit a sweat-pot demographically. Kenya need to further drop.

I think in summary India & Kenya will start to enjoy demographic dividend soon. I think in 10yrs - the current largest pop cohort in kenya (5-10) will exist childhood - and we should start seeing an inverted pop structure - rather than pyramid - and the result economic benefit at micro(family) and macro-level will be apparent.

Its already happening:
There is reason for optimism that Kenya can benefit from a demographic dividend within 15 to 20 years. It is estimated that its working age population will grow to 73 per cent by 2050, bolstering the country's GDP per capita 12 times higher than the present, with nearly 90 per cent of the working age in employment.

The future is here! Btw,in Nyeri,Kirinyaga and Kiambu counties lower primary streams of 4 classes often have one empty classroom.
