If you are in ghana then you are lucky. There must be dairy cattle research being done because I have heard something about it when I was in ghana. Order must be a ranches programme. Do not waste your time going to the fulanis. The breeds of cows the do and not profitable. That's why they end up destroy people's farms to feed the cows. If you do exotic breeds you can end up to $2000 and upwards each cow.

Here i milk them early in the morning around 6:30-7 and then in the evening around 6

About feeding i just herd them in the fields
And give them salt licks sometimes
I also give them dairy meal when they are being milked

A good question if you milk them at 6 p.m. how do you dispose the milk. This is a big problem which I had in zim milking them late. That's why we make them around 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. so the milk can be sold off instantly as fresh milk. In the morning we use the milk for cheese and butter but in the afternoon we sell the milk as fresh milk because the quality is not as good. Quality of milk is affected by heat. We tried to formulate her own daily meal. Which the cows love a lot especially if you are going to do butter or cheese they need a lot more roasted soya beans or expelled soya beans cake.

The indigenous breed of cattle are very resilient to drought and diseases. In beef production the indigenous breeds do not really grow that big. So if you are selling your meat for every kg that is a big disadvantage. In zim and south africa commercial farmers are no more doing the indigenous breeds. The bigger the cow is the more money you get
