How else do you explain the hopeless situation in many African countries where reforms and any progressive movement forward have basically stalled almost forever. Classic case in point - Nigeria electricity problem...you can almost guess the situation will continue for the next 30yrs. The same with endless fuel shortages. I can understand the intricacies of fighting corruption and crime amidst deep poverty where opportunity for honest reward is far and wide. But I cannot understand how years after years some easy to fix problems cannot be fixed?

We must never accept the status quo in Africa - because it's terrible - it's horrible. Countries must continuously progressively fix their issues. If their political governance system is unable to fix almost anything then it's almost certain there will be war and coups.

Wonderful post, mzee! You've seen into the heart of the matter: like you I realised the socio culture, or rather it's extremely unfortunate historical roots are responsible for today's permanent dysfunctions in WA.

Rmbr I said the Kenya/Somalia coastline dispute wasn't as simple as it appeared? Guess where 4 bn barrels of oil were discovered by ENI?
This weeks East African says ENI has found 4 bn barrels oil in Lamu. They're still quantifying the volume but allowing for exaggeration to entice investors it should be minimum 2.5 bn barrels. You can see its in the middle of disputed territory we were ordered by the ICJ to hand over to Somalia-AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!?
Its easier to market than the Turkana find and also some 8x larger: hope we can capture the tail end of the oil trade! In giant distinction to Naij imagine what we can do with this coupled with Turkana's 500 mn barrels of recoverable oil.

Even if the world abandons oil faster than I think you know as well as I even without hydrocarbons or minerals our growth trajectory will see us at 2nd world status by mid 2040s.
