Bayelsa United goalkeeper Bassey Akpan has been handed a late call-up by Nigeria as a replacement for the injured Dickson Etuhu of Fulham ahead of Sunday's World Cup qualifying match against Mozambique. “Etuhu will not be part of the team against Mozambique because of injury. His place will now be taken up by Bassey,” confirmed top Super Eagles official Emmanuel Attah. A former youth international, Akpan has been the top choice goalkeeper for champions Bayelsa United and has featured for the country's home-based team in last year's qualifiers for the inaugural Championship of African Nations (CHAN). Officials though would not comment on the availability of England-based Joseph Yobo and John Mikel Obi. Chelsea midfielder Obi has been sidelined by an ankle injury, while Yobo has been reported to be nursing a thigh strain and did not feature for Everton at the weekend.
