A 52 year old woman who has never been pregnant was discovered to have Ovarian cancer and she made her way to Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Center, Owerri where she had to undergo medical surgery to have the tumour removed or die after a brief period.

Ovarian cancer is a cancer that forms in an ovary. It results in abnormal cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body and cause other forms of cancer. When this process begins, there may be little or no symptoms. Symptoms become more noticeable as the cancer progresses which makes the cancer very dangerous.
The risk of ovarian cancer increases in women who have ovulated more over their lifetime. This includes those who have never had children, those who begin ovulation at a younger age or reach menopause at an older age.

In the case of the 52 year old woman, Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis center successfully conducted a surgery on her with professional and expert medical doctors who ensured that the whole tumour was brought out from her body. This had to be done in order to prevent death which was imminent.

Those at very high risk of Ovarian cancer may have their ovaries removed as a preventive measure. If caught and treated in an early stage, ovarian cancer may be curable. Treatment usually includes some combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. This early detection and prevention of Ovarian cancer is what Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Center is more concerned about as the medical center is reaching out to ladies and women in Nigeria to head towards the center and ensure that they are not faced with this cancer in the future.

Based on research, it would be important to note that nearly a quarter million women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year, and the disease also affects their families and friends. Therefore, it has become pertinent to create and raise awareness about ovarian cancer which is the women’s cancer with the lowest survival rate and for which there is little awareness and no cure.

***Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Centre is the leading medical and dialysis centre in the SouthEast and SouthSouth area of Nigeria.
