It was a rainy Saturday morning, Amoge was awoken by the sound of her alarm clock set for 5am. She loved the sound of the rain on the roofing sheets and the cooling effect of the rain .She had to literally drag herself out of her cosy bed. She had just completed her morning ritual of praying and doing some aerobics when she got a call from Teniola ; a renowned wedding planner, reminding her to be at her client's hotel room by 7am in order to get her ready for the wedding on time. Amoge worked as a professional make up artist and she received both local and international training. She had a special gift of transforming the plainest of faces into the most beautiful. After several years of struggling in the industry, she was now reaping the fruits of her labour. She got many referrals even from celebrities. Business was good and her bank account could testify to that. Amoge was dressed to go out, her make up box was carefully placed in the trunk of her newly acquired car and drove to the hotel where her client lodged. Amoge did what she knew how to do best. The contract was to make the bride ,bride's maids and the mother of the bride up. She did justice to them all. Even the mother of the bride could have passed for a bride as well. The mother of the bride who was popularly called 'Maame' said to her "Amoge my daughter ,well done! .Christie my friend won't let me rest if you don't touch up her face as well, don't worry she will pay you". Maame quickly rang up Christie who was staying in the room next to hers, to get her make up done. As Madame Christie approached Amoge, she wore a smile that looked familiar. "I have met this woman before" ,Amoge said to herself. It was almost time for the wedding ceremony. The bride and bride's maids got into their well decorated cars. The other guests had either family members ,friends or cabs take them to the wedding venue. While Amoge was walking towards her car in the packing lot , she saw Madame Christie trying to enter a car packed besides hers. Amoge caught a blurry vision of a man who closed Madame Christie's door and went over to the driver's seat .At this time, Amoge had also just got to her car .In a curious attempt to see who was driving Madame Christie, she looked over to the driver's seat and his eyes met hers. She knew this face very well. How could she forget the face of her best friend in primary school and junior secondary school. It was William Bankole Nwankwo."I must be dreaming" Amoge said to herself. The last time she saw William was just after their Basic Education Certificate Exam (Junior WAEC examination) when he told her with teary eyes that his family was relocating to London. She could say for sure that at that time of her life, that was the worst thing that could ever happen to her. William was like a brother to her. From their days in Ekulu primary school to Federal Government College Enugu, he was there for her and promised to always be ,at least that was his promise to her 20 years ago. Amoge swiftly turned her gaze away from him in anger and drove off to the wedding venue. The proper wedding ceremony was over,Amoge did some touch up to the bride's face to prepare her for the reception of the guests at the beautifully decorated Marquee. She sat down with the other guests and watched with admiration as the bride and groom danced gallantly to one of the trending " Naija" songs. While Amoge was daydreaming about how she wanted her big day to be, she was brought back to reality by a voice which said "please is the seat beside you taken?,she looked up to see William .He didn't give her a chance to reply. He kept a straight face and sat down immediately. She felt very uneasy by his presence but tried her best to enjoy the wedding. The couple and well wishers were on the dance floor and Amoge was fiddling with her phone and pretending to be engrossed with what she was doing . William said to her "Are you going pretend that you do not know who I am"? .She replied with a frown, "I can say the same thing, you know! ".He said with a smile ,"it is so good to see you again". Amoge tried to push the past aside and have a normal conversation with William. They had general discussions while they followed the wedding programme. It was getting dark and She had to go home .Amoge bade him farewell and as got up to leave, she felt his palm on her hand. "Please Stay" , he said. "Would it make a difference? " ,she replied and walked away. When Amoge retired to her bed, She thought about how her day went .Meeting William had reopened old wounds but at the same time she couldn't deny that his presence sent a tingly sensation down her spine. It occurred to her that they didn't exchange contact numbers. "I guess it would take another 10 years to meet again " ,she thought to herself. Amoge went on with her life, she pushed thoughts of William to a corner of her brain . Several Months went by, the much anticipated Rivers State fashion show was only a few days away.Amoge was hired by a fast rising fashion House to be the official make up artist .and so she travelled to Portharcourt where the event was to take place. It was the first day of the fashion show. The models of the various fashion houses were back stage making up and trying on their outfits to walk down the runway. Amoge was had just finished with one model when she heard someone screaming her name, 'Amoge! , Amoge!' , she turned to see Obinna. "What are you doing here? " she asked. "I own The Ivory fashion house" ,he said . "That's great! she replied .They exchanged pleasantries and took each other's phone numbers. Amoge reminisced about the past. Many years ago when she was in primary school, she had four very close friends. They were always tops in class and took turns to be the first in class. They all went to FGC Enugu, remained best of friends there and were popularly called the famous five. William and Obinna were the two boys in the group. William's female cousin called Njide,Lola and Amoge were the females. Lola's mum and William's mum were best of friends. The last time Amoge saw Obinna was early last year when he moved back from New York. They met briefly at a comedy show in Lagos but were unable to discuss properly.Fate brought him her way again, she thought to herself. The fashion show came to an end,Amoge was packing her work items when her phone rang. "Guess who is here ? "Obinna said over the phone. "I can't guess ,just tell me! " , Amoge replied. "We are coming to meet you back stage " he said in excitement. Her bags were all packed .She was sitted on the chair and facing a dressing mirror .She saw the image of Obinna first as he came in through the door and some seconds later ,she saw the image of William as he walked into the room Their eyes met as she looked at him in the mirror. He was wearing a turquoise blue fitted tshirt on a pair of dark blue jeans and white Nike footwear. His shirt complemented his smooth dark skin. He had a clean hair cut with a little moustache and his sideburns were to die for. " How are you doing ? " William asked her while giving her a warm embrace. "I am great" , she replied. The three friends talked for some time and headed to the car park. Amoge wanted to get a cab that would take her to her hotel but William said to Obinna "I can drop her at the hotel if you don't mind since we are both going to New G.R.A" .She wondered in her heart why he had to ask Obinna for approval before dropping her. They both bid Obinna farewell and got into William's car. Amoge who was normally outspoken and confident, suddenly became shy and quiet. William's question broke the silence. "So how are you enjoying Portharcourt? ," "I have not had the time to explore the city "she replied. He asked if she would be free after the next day's fashion show so that he could take her around and she obliged. He told her that he moved back to Nigeria from Aberdeen for good. He studied engineering at Imperial college, got a master's degree and was immediately given a juicy job offer in Aberdeen .However, after his last visit to Nigeria several months ago ,he applied to work as an expertriate in a blue chip oil company in Nigeria. she Amoge told him about herself, some of the struggles and hardship she faced when she moved to Lagos in search of greener pastures. They got to her hotel and he escorted her to the door of her room. Just as she was opening the door, he said" I want to ask you a question?" .As he was about to speak ,Amoge's phone rang. She blurted out "It's Obinna!". William said with a straight face, "I will see you tomorrow" and Amoge went into her room. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

It was the end of the second day of the fashion show. while Amoge was packing her work items, William called to say that he had arrived and was waiting for her .She got into his car and they drove off.He took her to a place off Stadium road, where they enjoyed a hearty meal of 'bole'(roast) plantain, yam ,fish and a glass of perishingly cold fresh palm wine. They went to watch a movie at the cinema after the meal. Amoge loved nollywood movies so they settled for one that had good reviews. There was something unsettling about being sitted beside him in a cold dark cinema room .She stole glances at his side view. She never thought that William would grow up to be this handsome. The movie ended and William went to drop her off at the hotel. Just before she got down from the car, Amoge asked him "you had a question for me yesterday which you never asked".He turned to face her and while looking into her eyes, he asked " why didn't you reply even one of my letters?". "Which letters ?"she asked . He told her that he gave Lola a letter every summer holiday Lola came to London while they were still in secondary school. He said that he only stopped sending letters when Lola moved over to the UK to start her A levels programme . When the era of Facebook came,he searched for her but didn't find her on any social media platform. He kept trying to call the number he got from Njide ,his cousin but it was always switched off. No one else seemed to have her number. He said that he gave up trying to contact her any further at that point. He didn't understand why she never replied him or called him because he put his current mailing address and phone number in every letter he sent to her. Amoge told him that she remembered sending a letter to him via Nipost using the address Lola gave her when they resumed SS1. She wrote to inform him of the 12As he got in the Junior WAEC exams. When she didn't get a reply, she just felt he had moved on with his academics and life generally in the UK and never bothered trying again. She also sent a request on facebook although she used 'ebony beauty' instead of her official name as her username and has always had the picture of a beautiful beach as her profile picture since she was a very private person. She said that she secretly felt hurt that he never tried to keep in touch with her. " There has to be a good explanation why Lola never got the letters across to you" ,William said with a frown . He went on to talk about how the other friends went their separate ways after secondary school .Obinna was adopted by his aunt in the US when his parents passed away in a fatal car crash.Njide went back to the North after secondary school and was able to gain admission to study medicine in the University of Jos. "All that is in the past now", he said and they hugged each other. Amoge went into her room after bidding William farewell, she had a hot shower and laid on her bed.She thought about her relationship with Lola while they were in school. They were very close until SS1 when Lola started drifting away. She claimed that her participation in the school's Press and Jet clubs made her busy. Amoge also wondered what William wrote in his letters to her.She would never get the chance to know now ,she thought to herself in disappointment. She wondered if he still saw her as a sister.Amoge was finally able to sleep off amidst the numerous thoughts going through her mind. She was woken up by William's call."Do you like Jazz music ? , he asked."Sure!" she replied ."Since today is the last day of the fashion show and you are leaving tomorrow, I'll come and pick you up for dinner at a restaurant where strictly jazz music is played". "That would be nice" , she replied. The show was finally over .Amoge was glad that she impressed her client. She chatted with Obinna for some time and he told her that he would be returning back to Lagos the following week. They said their good byes and promised to keep in touch. Amoge hurriedly went to the hotel to freshen up.She packed her natural long hair into a pony tail and wore light make up.She put on a simple but classy outfit . William picked her up from the hotel room and they drove down to the restaurant. The music was superb! They had fried rice with peppered chicken and salad. The food was delicious. When the meal was over ,they moved over to the lounge .Amoge loved every second of their outing. She couldn't classify it as a date.He hadn't said anything yet to imply that it was one. Her thoughts were interrupted by his question,"So what's the name of your boyfriend?" 3 Likes 1 Share |

He asked. "I just have friends ,nothing serious at the moment , the last person I was serious with said that I am over independent for a woman after 4 years of dating " she replied with a frown. Amoge told him that her ex boyfriend's attitude changed when she started getting big jobs .He started complaining that she wasn't submissive to him.The new car she bought broke the camel's back.He just told her plainly that their relationship had no future .William told her not to worry ."It's his loss", he said with a smile . They had a lovely evening . William decided to go and drop Amoge off since she had a morning flight the following day. They discussed on their way to her hotel. William also talked about his work and family ."So any special lady in your life?" ,Amoge asked with a little anxiety . "Please let the answer be no" she said to herself. "Well a couple of flings in the past. I told myself that I would not settle down till I met the "one" ",he replied. They finally got to her hotel, William turned the ignition off .He faced her ,held her hands with his cold soft palms and said. "I am really glad that we had this opportunity to meet again".She looked at him with a sparkle in her eyes and replied,"same here,I had a great stay in Portharcourt, thanks to you". " I promise to keep in touch",. William said. He saw her off to her room ,they said their good byes in a tight embrace. Amoge went back to Lagos as planned. She had a lot of work lined up in the coming weeks that helped her not to dwell on William so much. William called her regularly and they enjoyed talking to each other over the phone. William came to Lagos a month after she left Portharcourt. He came to see his dad who had a successful hip replacement surgery. Amoge was able to see him for the few hours he was able to squeeze out from his family . He looked so happy to see her. They talked for hours till he had to leave. It was 4 months since Amoge met William at Portharcourt.Their friendship blossomed into a beautiful one. They could almost predict each other's reaction to certain situations. Amoge laid on her bed wondering where things stood between the two them. After a failed long relationship with her biological clock ticking at the same time, she didn't need a time waster around her. She had tried a couple of times to indirectly ask William what his intentions were but he kept saying ,"I love our friendship, let's not spoil what we share".He treated her like a queen .She couldn't complain. Although they saw each other once a month because of the long distance,he always made it count. However the pressure from Amoge's friends and family members made her second guess William's love for her. Her phone suddenly rang.It was an unknown number. "Can I speak to Amoge?," she heard the male voice say . Good morning ,this is Amoge speaking ,how can I be of help to you."This is Mr Banigo,I am calling on behalf of the management of Marigold estates. We would like your services for a photo session and Anniversary party for our MD.Will you be free three Saturdays from now?" I will check my schedule and get back to you on that so that we can work out all the modalities "she replied. Amoge remembered that William's elder brother's wedding was in two weeks time .She was looking forward to seeing him again. She had already picked out the dress for the event. Hopefully ,she would get a chance to be introduced to his family, she thought excitedly. It was some days to the wedding. William had come into town from Portharcourt and went to visit Amoge at her house. They were enjoying a sumptuous meal of Bitterleaf soup and pounded yam prepared by Amoge ,when William's phone rang. "We just landed ,the female voice said. I am waiting for you" ."I am on my way ",he replied and hung up the phone. "Who was that ?",she asked. "Oh! I forgot to mention earlier that Lola is coming in from London for the wedding. She asked me yesterday to come and pick her from the airport and I accepted". Amoge had mixed feelings about the phone call. She was glad that Lola ,her old time friend was coming to town but then again she remembered that it was this same Lola that didn't give her the letters from William. She also wondered why William never mentioned to her that Lola would be attending the wedding .They talked about everything .Why was this information omitted she thought to herself. William picked Lola from the airport. Lola was so happy to see him. When they got into his car,the first thing he asked her was, "why didn't you give Amoge her letters? ".Lola replied "which letters? ".William tried to juggle her memory by reminding her of the year and place he gave her the letters .Lola said "Oh! those letters,it's been ages.I gave them to her .Did she say I didn't do so . We were just kids then ,I am sure she does not remember. William saw the look on Lola's face. She looked very sincere. He thought to himself that they were all close friends back then and there was no reason why she shouldn't have delivered the letters to Amoge. It was the morning of the wedding day.Amoge was beautifully dressed in a traditional attire .She drove her car to church for the wedding. William was helping out with last minute wedding preparations. 3 Likes 1 Share |

She got to the church early and sat in front of the church waiting for other invited guests. She tried keeping herself busy by reading some news on the Internet when she heard someone scream her name in a foreign accent. She looked up to see Lola. She looked so beautiful .Amoge remembered how pretty she looked way back in secondary school.she always felt Lola had the total package. Beauty, brains ,charisma and money. She got up to greet her ."wow! It's been ages ,so good to see you "Lola said."same here" Amoge replied. They chatted for a few minutes and went into the church for the ceremony. The church service ended and the couple was taking pictures with family and friends. Amoge could not take the anxiety any longer ,she couldn't keep looking at Lola and pretend that all was well. She took Lola to a quiet corner of the church compound and asked her " Lola dear, why didn't you give me the letters William gave you? "."I don't remember anyone giving me any letters to give you "Lola replied."are you guys dating? " she asked with a mishevious smile on her face. "Well something like that Amoge replied with a straight face ."Are you sure that he did not give u any letters? ". "Babe relax "she said ,"you know that I would have given them to you,if he did". Amoge was surprised. She didn't know what to think anymore. Could it be that William lied to me she said to herself. She decided not to fuss a lot about it and enjoy the wedding. The wedding reception venue was breathtaking. It was so beautifully decorated. There were lots of important dignitaries at the wedding and there was so much to eat and drink. William introduced Amoge to his parents briefly and took her to her seat.During the reception, William was all over the place making sure that the guests were satisfied. He checked on Amoge a couple of times. Amoge noticed that Lola was always going to were William's parents were seated. The smile on their faces when she came around was so glaring. Amoge got a call on her phone from a prospective client and went outside to pick the call because of the noise .From a distance, she saw William and Lola talking. She wondered why Lola stood so close to him . William looked so engrossed in the conversation ,he laughed at every given opportunity, or so she thought . Amoge felt hurt. She was his guest at the wedding and they hadn't even spent up to 15minutes together. She completed her phone conversation and went back inside the wedding hall . William joined her at the table after some minutes. He tried having a conversation with her but she replied him in monosyllables. It was time for the couple to dance with friends and family. William asked Amoge to go with him to the dance floor and she said" you can go dear ,I am very tired and I may have to leave early" . William went to dance with his brother and his new wife . While he was spraying naira notes on them, Lola joined them on the dance floor. The dj took the music to the next level. It was like he saw Lola and decided to play Nigerian hit songs. Lola and William became the spectacle of all the guests. They danced as if they had no bones and showed off the latest dance steps. Amoge thought to herself ,"I might as well leave them so that they can have all the fun in the world". 3 Likes 1 Share |

Amoge left angrily. She didn't bother calling William to say that she was leaving. She got into her car and started crying. "What's wrong with me? " She yelled." Why can't a guy love me and settle down with me? ".She pulled down her car mirror and looked at herself. Tears came running down. She didn't care that she was ruining her well made up face. "When am I going to spend time with him? She asked herself. He is going back to Portharcourt tomorrow afternoon. I don't even know the direction this relationship is headed".She had a million questions to ask herself. She slotted in one of her music discs to put her in a happier mood and drove off. She drove for some distance and got caught up in traffic. The cars kept moving at a very slow pace . Suddenly, she heard a loud bang and her car shook . "Don't tell me some one just hit my car .Could this day get any worse than this?" ,she yelled. She got out of the car angrily not caring how she looked." Why did you hit my car ? "she screamed. "Madam I should be asking you if you're blind. Didn't you see other cars moving?". Amoge looked at her car and saw that the bumper of the car had a minor indentation. "Mr man "she said , "look at what you have done to my car ".Amoge poured out her suppressed anger on the man and drove off. Amoge got home and had a cold bath to calm herself down. She looked at her phone to see if William had called her and there was no missed call. She decided to go to bed. William called her the following morning asking her why she left early and she told him that she was tired. He told her that he was sorry that he had to travel that day because of work the following day and that he would definitely work on getting his leave soon so that they would spend more time together. She felt a little happy with what he said. It was morning of the wedding annivesary party for the managing director of Marigold estates. Amoge wore a beautiful fitted knee length dress and let her long hair down.Mr Banigo informed her that the photo shoot for the family pictured would be in the morning and the party in the evening. She got to Mr Okafor's (the MD 's) residence and drove in through the gate. Her jaw dropped as she drove in.The mansion looked magnificent. She was ushered into the house by the butler. Amoge was taken into one of the small parlours to make up Mrs Grace Okoli. She placed her work items on the table and asked for her client. The elegant Madame Grace walked into the room. She spoke with a soft voice .Amoge showed her a catalogue of her previous jobs and asked for the kind of look she wanted. "Just make me look beautiful, nothing flashy. I don't think this is necessary but my son insists that it we look our best for the photo session". Amoge had a great time while working on her client's face. They had a nice conversation ,though she was elderly ,they seemed to have a connection and she was so easy to talk to despite her social status. Amoge had just finished with madame Grace's face when she got the urge to use the toilet .She finished with the convenience room and while she was going back to the parlour where she left madame Grace ,Amoge met a man coming from the opposite direction . 3 Likes 1 Share |

"Is this not the rude guy who hit my car the other day? " she said to herself. The man looked at her with a frown on his face and said "young lady what are you looking for in my parent's house?". She ignored him and entered into the living room where madame Grace was waiting for her.The young man followed her into the room and just as he was about to ask her a question, madame Grace said; I see you have met my first son Arinze. "Ehmm yes ma! "she replied with a low voice ."Arinze meet the wonderful young lady who has transformed your mother into a "sweet 16 teenager," madame Grace said. Amoge wished that the ground could open so that she could go right inside. She hated this guy from the first moment she met him.He could not even say sorry for hitting her car , she thought to herself. He excused himself and left the room to dress up. Amoge was told to stay around for the photo session .She was taken into another living room. It was so massive ,Amoge felt that she could get lost in it.She met the entire family .There were 2 boys and 2 girls. Mr Okafor gave out a pleasant smile when she greeted him.The photo session went well. They all looked so good. The 40th wedding anniversary party commenced at the beautifully decorated garden which had a fountain. Amoge found a seat by a corner and sat while she watched with admiration, the various fashionable wears worn by the guests. She saw a missed call from William and decided to go out and call him back.He told her that he called earlier to tell her that his leave was approved and he would be coming to Lagos in 3 weeks. She walked excitedly back to her seat but she realised that her seat had been taken. Amoge decided it was a good time to leave since she had been at the Okafor's residence since morning. She went to tell Madame Grace who was busy attending to guests goodbye .When she approached her, Arinze was giving her a bottle of champagne for a special guest."My dear thank you! , please give Arinze your number ,I left my phone in the living room, I will call you later, madam Grace said. "Thank you ma "she replied. She gave Arinze her number and went home. Weeks went by and William came to spend his holiday in Lagos. He decided to stay in a hotel rather than with his parents. He visited Amoge as often as possible and vice versa. He had spent about a week of his holiday in Lagos when Amoge went to drop off some specially prepared goat head delicacy he requested for earlier before going to work. She got to the hotel room and knocked but there was no reply so she walked in since the door was opened. She could not believe her eyes."What are you doing here Lola? She asked. She sprang up from his laps ."it's not what you think Amoge.I just came to discuss an important issue with William " Lola said ."Are you not supposed to be in the UK?" Amoge asked. "What is going on William?" . 1 Like 1 Share |

Lola interrupted William's attempt to reply Amoge and said that he was the only guy she could confide in when she was emotionally down. When she discovered that her boyfriend got another girl pregnant, she took the next available flight back home to get over the trauma.Amoge yelled at her,"stop lying",I know that you have always wanted him.I am sure that you purposely didn't give me my letters many years ago. "Well yes!! 'Lola screamed back. "I didn't give you the letters,do you want to know why? " At this time , she faced William and said " I have loved you since I knew myself. We went to the same nursery ,primary, secondary school and even university. You never noticed how much I love you. All you talk about is Amoge but because I know that you have not married her yet ,I believe that deep down inside that heart of yours, you have feelings for me. It has taken me many failed relationships but am willing to wait for you" . William was speechless. "Won't you say anything? "Amoge asked William. "Wow! "Amoge said with tears of anger running down her cheeks and stormed out of the room. Amoge's heart must have shattered into a thousand pieces .She cried like she had never cried before .She had already built her world around William. Amoge got home ,put her phone on silent mode and cried herself to sleep. She woke up to see several missed calls from William and an unknown number. She called the unknown number because she felt that they were potential clients. "Hello I got a missed call from this number, may I know who is speaking? " Amoge asked. "It's me Arinze ,I called to invite you for Sunday lunch, mum wants to see you again. I can come and pick you up if you want"."Never mind ,I will come by myself ".Amoge replied. 2 Likes |

A couple of days went by and Amoge decided to return William's calls. He tried apologising to her but she told him that she only called to let him know that he was free to go with the Lola of his dreams. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Amoge came back from church feeling rejuvenated. She had a light snack and took a cab to the Okafor's residence. She was ushered into the living room where she met all the Okafor's excluding Arinze. Madam Sandra was so happy to see her again. "Arinze is on his way here , he had to go and pick up some things from his house" she said. Lunch was served on a beautiful antique dining table.A wide variety of meals were displayed on the table to choose from. As she was about to sit down , Arinze walked into the dining room .The sit opposite Amoge was empty so he sat down there. She felt uncomfortable but decided to participate in the discussions at the table and enjoy the delicious meals. Amoge could have sworn that she caught Arinze staring at her a couple of times. "Why is he looking at me ? " she wondered in her heart. Lunch was over . Amoge assisted in taking the dishes to the kitchen. She spent some time chatting with madam Grace and her daughters in the kitchen. They loved Amoge's sense of humour. She told them that she had to go home and thanked them for a lovely lunch. "My daughter please feel free to visit us whenever you can .Arinze will drop you off at your house" ,she said. The ride back home was a quiet one .When they got to her house, Arinze switched off the ignition of his car and said, "I know that you hate me and can't wait to get out of this car but I just want you to know that I have not been able to get you out of my mind since the first night I met you". 2 Likes 1 Share |

He told her that no lady had ever spoken to him with such confidence .Most of the ladies he met according to him never wanted to risk getting him angry .They had no will of their own. " I have heard all that you said and I will think about it "Amoge replied. "I am willing to wait for as long as it takes Amoge,I want you in my life" ,Arinze said. Amoge said to herself" this guy must be joking if he thinks that I will have anything to do with a proud man that I barely know. She left his car and went into her house. It was a brand new week ,Amoge was excited to start her part time masters degree in business administration at the Lagos Business School. She employed a make up artist to take care of her clients whenever school work clashed with a new job. Her first lecture in Business English was over . Amoge hurriedly walked towards the door so that she could drive home. She saw someone that looked like Arinze discussing with some men in a corner of the classroom but she pushed her speculation aside and walked out of the room. As she was entering her car ,she felt a tap on her shoulder. "Fancy meeting you here Amoge" the male voice said. Amoge turned around to see Arinze standing before her."Are you stalking me?",she asked with a frown. "Don't flatter yourself my dear , I just came to greet you since you are my new classmate"."Okay, I guess I will see you around. I have to leave now, you know that I have a long drive back home" she said to him. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

A couple of months went by . Amoge learnt how to balance her business with school work. She promised herself that she would get the highest educational qualification no matter the obstacles. She was studying at home in the evening when she heard her phone ring. It was a strange number. Amoge picked the call and heard a familiar voice. "It's me Arinze ,I am calling to invite you for dad's retirement party coming up in two weeks time". "Unfortunately,I don't think I will be able to attend, she said . "It's not a date Amoge. I know that we are not best of friends but it would be nice to have you around plus my mum always asks of you."Ehmm okay I'll see if I can squeeze it into my tight schedule" , Amoge replied . They exchanged pleasantries and ended the conversation. Almost immediately the call ended, another call came in . It was another unknown number. Amoge picked the call and said hello .The caller said" hi Amoge,it's me William. Can you come to your door? ". To be continued 1 Like |

She walked angrily to her door and opened it . William stood before her with a bouquet of fresh flowers and a gift bag. "What's all this for William?" She asked. "I had to come and see you .You have refused to pick my calls for months now " ."I am sure you know why" Amoge replied. "Yes I do ,my love but can I at least come in so that we can talk. Amoge allowed him into her house. William went down on his knees and said " I am so sorry for how I treated you. Please can we start all over. You know that it's you that I have always loved . "So what about your precious Lola? "she blurted out in anger," I decided to date her some weeks after you and I broke up but it ended barely a month after. It was a disaster. We are not compatible in any way "he replied with a soft voice . " I know that you have no reason to believe that I love you deeply but I am prepared to spend the rest of my life proving to you how much I feel about you. I have not been myself since you left me .Please take me back! Amoge ". Amoge told him that she wasn't ready to become his rebound girl. He kept on pleading with her to forgive him."You can go home now, I will think about it.I forgave you a long time ago William". 3 Likes 1 Share |

The weeks went by so fast .On the morning of Mr Okafor's retirement party, Arinze called Amoge to remind her of the event and the time."If you don't mind dear,I'llcome and pick you up for the party,if that's okay by you",Arinze said ."That is fine by me.See you by 4pm then " Amoge replied. The door bell rang at exactly 4pm as earlier planned. Amoge went to the door to confirm who it was. Arinze smiled when he saw her at the door. They walked to where he packed his car and drove off. His words broke the unusual silence in the car."You look so beautiful "he said. "You aren't looking bad either",Amoge replied . They discussed about school and other general topics till they got to their destination. Arinze ushered her into the house. The guests hadn't yet arrived so Amoge stayed in the living room with Arinze . Madame Grace came into the room and saw her."My daughter how are you? I am so happy to see you. Arinze told me that you are both in the same MBA class. Please make yourself at home okay"she said . Some minutes later , Arinze's sisters and brother came into the living room to greet her as well. Arinze's younger sisters ;Ifeoma and Nicole were particularly more excited to see her again. "What did this Arinze guy tell them about me", Amoge wondered in her heart. Guests started arriving. Amoge assisted madame Grace and her daughters with last minute preparations. Amoge was standing beside madame Grace when Arinze joined them."Please mum I have to steal her away from you for some time". "No problem" she replied. Arinze took Amoge to where the other guests were and gave her a seat."I don't want you to wear yourself out" he said . "I am not complaining" she replied. "Okay !but you're my guest.Let me get you some drinks and food ".He returned with both food and drinks servers ."You can place your order with them dear"he said to her. The party went on well.Mr Okafor gave a heart warming speech along the line . Arinze sat beside her during the party. He introduced her to some of his close friends that attended the party as well. It was getting late. Amoge said to him, "I need to start heading home now"."Okay!" he replied, "let me go and get the car key"."I will tell your mum that I am leaving while you get your key" Amoge said . They left the noise of the party and walked towards Arinze's car."Your coming here made my day. Thanks a lot " he said . "You were a great host , I enjoyed myself "she replied. They got to into the car and Arinze turned to face her. He looked at her with admiration. Why are you staring at me like that? Amoge said." You are beautiful , not just outwardly but within " he said to her. Amoge moved her gaze away from him in a shy manner. She couldn't deny the fact that she was attracted to him but she didn't to make another mistake. "Why do you hate me so much Amoge?" 2 Likes 1 Share |

Don't say that". She said while looking into his eyes. "I just don't know you well enough to trust you" she said with a soft voice. "Then give me a chance "Arinze said. Amoge remembered William's proposal which seemed so genuine. She quickly shrugged off the thought "I will never be a rebound girl to a man who never appreciated me in the first place" , she said to herself. 1 Like 1 Share |

"I accept ! I will give our friendship a chance, just friends for now!" Amoge said .Arinze excitedly gave her a tight hug and took her home. It was 12 months after Amoge and Arinze after Mr Okafor's retirement party. William relocated back to the UK according to what Obinna told Amoge. Arinze had now fully taken over the operations of Marigold estates on account of his dad's retirement. Amoge enjoyed a beautiful friendship with Arinze even though she failed to acknowledge before him that they were dating. She was scared that the word 'dating' ,came with undue pressure and unrealistic expectations. They however knew that they both loved each other very much and enjoyed each other's company. It was a cool Saturday evening. Amoge and Arinze were having a picnic by the beach. It was one of the most exclusive beaches in Lagos. They were watching the waves and hoping they could catch a glimpse of the sun set. 1 Like 3 Shares |

For the first time in so many years, Amoge could say that she was truly happy. "Let us go for a horse ride" Arinze said to her . Amoge remembered when he told her that he played polo very well. He hired one of the horses at the beach and rode the horse with Amoge sitted in front of him on the horse's back.He took her to a house on the beach made of wood. They both went inside .It was a tastefully furnished room with a small dining area. The only source of light was from the lit candles. The candles were up to 20 and they gave off a beautiful fragrance together with that of the fresh rose petals scattered around the room. The small dining table had 2 long red candles.Amoge could not see any sound system but she could hear soft music playing in the background. He pulled out a seat for her to sit on at the dining table. Amoge looked at his handsome face and hazel eyes. His physical features were to die for .They had dinner and sat in front of the house. It was dark and cold outside so Arinze went inside to bring a jacket for her."Put your hands in the pocket of the jacket" he said. Amoge felt something soft .It was like a big ball of cotton wool. She brought it out and said "take it and keep, you might need it later".Arinze replied her " look at it well ,do you think it's worth keeping?" . Amoge looked at it critically and started breaking it up into smaller pieces until she saw a beautiful diamond ring. Arinze went down on his knees and said "thank you Amoge for showing me the reality of true love .I cherish our friendship so much. You know me probably better than I know myself. Please allow me spend my life time loving you" . Amoge could not believe the words she was hearing. "I love you too" ,she said excitedly and" yes I would love to be your wife".He took her in his arms and gave her a kiss on her lips. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

It was 4 months after their engagement. Amoge and Arinze decided that they would have a big traditional wedding in the village and a very private wedding in Venice. It was the night before Amoge was supposed to travel to village to prepare the traditional wedding ceremony . She had packed all the things she needed in her suitcase and decided to sleep early in order to catch the first flight to Enugu the following morning. Amoge must have slept for only about 10 minutes when she heard a loud bang on her door. Her room was dark because she switched off the lights so she searched for her phone."Who would be banging on my door by this time of the night" , she asked herself? .She managed to use the light of her phone to find the light switch."Who is that? "she said with a loud voice without opening her door. It is me! ,a male voice replied. "What's your name?" Amoge replied ."It's William" ,he replied . Which William?, William who?.It's Amoge's William , he replied. Amoge reluctantly opened her door and said what are you doing in Lagos? .Obinna told me that you are getting married traditionally this weekend." You didn't even tell me Amoge. We used to be best friends, now your getting married without telling me. Who is this guy taking you away from me forever?" ."You don't know him William and frankly speaking I have moved on.I think you should too",Amoge replied with a frown. " Amoge I love you deeply. I relocated to the UK to start all over again. I felt horrible because I lost you.I loved you right from when we were kids.Do you remember when we shared our school lunch and did assignments together?.Do you remember when we talked for hours over the phone? People make mistakes Amoge and I have changed. You don't know this new guy as much as you know me" ,William said. 2 Likes 1 Share |
