A dad-of-one cleaned his entire home and did the laundry before stepping in front of a train, an inquest heard.

Benjamin Foster, 28, called his wife to say "bye" and said he loved her before he ran out in front of a train in Norwich, Norfolk on May 13.

An inquest heard that Mr Foster planned his own death as he thought he was going to lose his job at a publishing company where he had not been hitting targets.

Mr Foster stepped in front of a train at Brundall Gardens, but the driver was unable to stop in time despite applying the emergency brakes, Norwich Coroner's Court heard yesterday.

Mr Foster's wife returned home later to find police at the neighbour's door, Mr Foster's wife found a letter had been left in the kitchen and that the laundry had been done, property cleaned and shopping done.

In the days before his death he called a friend to say he had been going through "will stuff" and that if anything happened to him to be the one to teach his son "fun, cool things".

A report by the British Transport Police (BTP) stated Mr Foster worked for a publishing company but had not been hitting targets.

The inquest heard that despite having his probationary period extended, Mr Foster of Brundall, Norfolk, thought he was going to lose his job.

Mr Foster had been studying for an Open University degree in engineering at the time of his death.

Coroner Yvonne Blake who reached a conclusion of suicide, said: "He clearly was a much liked and loved person and it seems very sad that he had such a negative view of himself which clearly everyone else from his employers to his wife to his friends to his tutor didn't have."
