Sci-fi fans are rare to find. Tpiah, the best sci-fi books to me are those of writers who know little science but have a lotta imagination. More contemporary sci-fi books are hardly distinguishable from textbooks. Oldies; All Herbert's books are awesome. Asimov is perhaps the most celebrated Sci-fi writer. H. G. Wells' Invisible Man was great. Some people classify Orwell's 1984 as Sci-fi, I think not, but it is absolutely awesome either way. Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide is also a classific though I only read the first one. Contemporary; Battlefield Earth was good but I didn't finish it. I read part one of Peter Hamilton's Reality Dysfunction. Quite boring but I like the title. Perhaps the best of our time, by my reckoning at least, is Michael Crichton. His Andromeda Strain is the best smallest book I've ever read. Ever

There are many more, both old and new.

Michael Critchton is still my best Sci-fi Author. Look for Prey, The terminal or Sphere.
Re: Science Fiction Fans Attn by morzook(m): 9:23pm On Sep 17, 2010
the sphere ke? that book is kinda boring to me, i bought it because it was a crichton. waste of money
Re: Science Fiction Fans Attn by vescucci(m): 8:51am On Sep 18, 2010
Then you do not know a good thing even if it gave you an uppercut. Sphere was great. Comparable to Dean Koontz's Phantom which is far better than its movie
Re: Science Fiction Fans Attn by kuntama: 11:10am On Sep 24, 2010
My God! R u guys kidding? Michael Crichton is a generalist and a pretty poor one at that. Dean Koontz? Utter rubbish. Some of the best of the genre include: John Christopher "The death of Grass"
Samuel Delaney " Babel-17"
Cordwainer Smith " The rediscovery of Man"
Uusula Le Guin - ALL of her books
James Blish Cities in Flight
Joe Halderman Forever War
Richard Matheson
Cormac McCarthy- although not strictly SF
One of the best modern SF writers is Ian Banks. If you're new to him, it's worth starting with The Algerbraist. Totally divine.

I could go on and on
Re: Science Fiction Fans Attn by vescucci(m): 12:58pm On Sep 24, 2010
Lol. Calm down. No one called Dean Koontz a sci-fi writer. Michael is a generalist and how is that a bad thing. You do realise that a bad sci-fi writer is still em. . . . . . a sci-fi writer

does anyone have any suggestions for interesting sci fi books?

Re: Science Fiction Fans Attn by tpiah: 1:39am On Oct 12, 2010
thanks @ everyone.

it seems dystopian fiction is more popular these days but i'll check out the titles mentioned.

i've read some of these authors but not all.
Re: Science Fiction Fans Attn by abbeywasc(m): 1:01pm On Oct 12, 2010
isaac asimov is still the greatest sci-fi of all time. can argue it anywhere.
Re: Science Fiction Fans Attn by iice(f): 2:35pm On Oct 12, 2010
I enjoyed Hitchhiker's guide.
Anyway i do read a few but i'm not like a huge fan. I find Crichton boring.
Oh one of my favorite is the Dune Saga.
