GOOD NEWS: Lionel Messi Could Still Be Fit For Barcelona - Real Madrid Clash

Barcelona star Lionel Messi may recover from his injury sustained against Athletic Bilbao in time for the crucial clash with Real Madrid next weekend, according to the Catalan club’s medical staff.

The Argentine suffered a leg injury during the 1-1 draw at San Mames on Saturday night and it was initially believed that the 22-year old was definitely out of El Clasico and also the vital match against Inter in the Champions League in midweek.

However, club doctors have carried out more stringent tests and have declared that the knock is not as serious as initially feared and that Messi could feature in both encounters.

A source close to Goal.com confirmed that Messi is fully expected to start the match at the Camp Nou next weekend against the league leaders while a decision will be made prior to kick off whether to risk him against the Italian side.

Messi’s injury sees him join the growing list of casualties for coach Pep Guardiola. Striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces a fitness battle to face his former side as a result of a hamstring injury, while both Yaya Toure and Rafael Marquez have been tested for flu-like symptoms over the weekend.

Messi has a 1st degree injury in the adductor of his left thigh. But he may still be fit to play on Tuesday.

Extensive examinations were made of the player this morning, including various echographies and magnetic resonance. There are still further evaluations to be made before making a decision as to his availability for the game against Inter, as announced today by the Club Medical Services.

Ibrahimovic improving

An echography on the player has shown that his recovery from an ischiotibial injury is progressing well. Further evaluations will be made of the player over the next two days, and there is a strong possibility that he could even be ready in time for the match with Inter.

Touré, almost certainly out

The Medical Services have revealed that the player is still feeling very ill and is highly unlikely to be able to play on Tuesday.

Márquez does not have influenza A

After an examination on Sunday it has been discerned that the Mexican does not have Influenza A, and depending on his progress, he may be able to play on Tuesday.

Abidal and Touré do indeed have Influenza, but the suggestion that Rafa Márquez has also caught the illness has been cast aside as a false alarm. The FC Barcelona Medical Services will be studying the player’s progress, and he may he fine to play against Inter. It will be a busy time for them, for they are also closely monitoring the progress of Leo Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
