Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly rejected a chance to rejoin Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 months before he was sacked by Chelsea in December of the same year.
In a new book by the coach’s close friend and journalist; Bob Beasley titled: ‘Jose Mourinho: Up Close & Personal’, it is revealed that Mourinho never really enjoyed his spell at Real Madrid because he thought the players lacked team spirit.

Beasley visited Mourinho during the Portuguese’s time in charge at the Bernabeu and he coach revealed he was sad at the club because he felt players lacked team spirit.
In an excerpt from the book, Beasley wrote: “I visited Mourinho at Real Madrid in January 2013 and he gave me a quick guided tour of the superb training facilities.
“I told him: ‘It’s magnificent, you’ve got everything here!’
“His reply was swift and telling. ‘Everything but team spirit,’ he said. He admitted he didn’t like it at Real. ‘Not many managers stay here for three years,’ he shrugged, clearly feeling he’d done well to last so long.”
The Man Utd coach used an example of how Madrid’s senior stars failed to turn up to Michael Essien’s 30th birthday bash as how team spirit was lacking.
Beasley continued: “He (Mourinho) said it (Madrid) was a political club full of warring factions and told me a story to illustrate the point perfectly.

“It had been Real midfielder Michael Essien’s 30th birthday party and the on-loan Chelsea star had invited all his Madrid colleagues to his bash. Only a handful turned up and it was left to Mourinho to console his upset player..
“He told Essien it was nothing personal; it was not even that his team-mates did not like him and, sadly, it was not because they had anything better to do. Mourinho said it was simply because they were more interested in themselves and not others.”
Mourinho was in shock as Rafa Benitez was named as the man to replace Carlo Ancelotti just months after Perez has approached him to replace the Italian.
