A Chieftain of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu shocked the general public on Sunday night with the release of a scathing communique calling for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, John Oyegun. Here are four things you should know about the contentious primaries;

The Primary election was held on September 3, 2016, and recorded 24 candidates contesting to be the APC flagbearer in Ondo state
There had been several reports on an attempt by Asiwaju Tinubu to impose his preferred candidate, Mr. Abraham Olusegun on the party
The other candidate who was seen as likely to win was Rotimi Akeredolu, who was the ACN governorship flag bearer for the state in 2012
Rotimi Akeredolu defeated Olusegun Abraham by 669 votes as a total of 2,740 delegates were accredited for the exercise
Many of the contestants rejected the results of the primaries after claiming that a number of ‘fake delegates’ had voted at the elections
The Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee also supported the claims of some of the contestants, recommending that fresh elections be held
The Party’s National Working Committee rejected the recommendation of the Appeal Committee and claimed it was ‘fundamentally and fatally flawed’
