In his book Leading former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the seven stars he regrets not bringing to Old Trafford during his reign at the club. From former Brazil star Ronaldo to current Arsenal keeper Petr Cech, the longest serving and most decorated British Coach has laid it bare for all to see.

The Red Devil fans will not enjoy these kind of news but it is all over for Fergie and therefore he has the right to say the truth. Let us take a look at his list;

7. Lucas Moura- PSG


‘Right towards the end of my time at United we were pursuing Lucas Moura, the immensely talented right winger who, at the time, was playing in his native Brazil for Sao Paulo. We offered £24million for him, which was upped to £30m and again to £35m, but Paris Saint-Germain signed him for £45m. David and I were just not prepared to go to those sorts of levels.’ Says Ferguson

6. Raphael Varane- Real Madrid

‘In 2011, I hurtled down on the train from Euston to Lille to sign the young French defender Raphael Varane. David Gill was getting into the finer points of the contract with Lens, Varane’s club, when Zinedine Zidane got wind of this and somehow scooped him up for Real Madrid from under our noses. I don’t think Jose Mourinho, who was managing Real Madrid, had even seen Varane play.’ Ferguson said.

5. Sergio Aguero- Manchester City


Sergio Aguero is one of the most dangerous strikers in Europe at the moment. Manchester United have struggled to score goals in the last few seasons and many Red Devils fans will be disappointed that Ferguson did not take the chance to sign him.

‘We had a chance to buy Sergio Aguero before he went to Manchester City, but eventually his agent was demanding a price we were not prepared to pay.’ Ferguson continued.

4. Petr Cech- Arsenal.

Former Chelsea keeper Petr Cech won 4 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League trophy, 4 FA Cups, 3 League cups and 1 Europa League crown.


‘In 2003 I went to see Petr Cech in goal for Rennes in a game against Auxerre. We thought Petr was a bit young for the bruisers in the Premier League, but Petr went to Chelsea and in the subsequent decade kept 220 clean sheets for the club.’ Fergie said.
