A priest of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri, Imo State, Rev. Canon Chinemerem Uche has lambasted traders and residents living in Ekeonunwa market for the unhealthy lifestyle and poor hygiene in their vicinity while calling on Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle (Dr.) Rochas Anayo Ethelbert Okorocha to make haste his decision in relocating the market to a more convenient sight adding that, it is the best thing that could happen to owerri capital city in such a time as this where Urban Renewal is the key aspect of modernization.

The popular cleric who visibly marked his protest by visiting the sight where residents and traders brought their rubbish and dirts to the main road asserted that they ought to have bagged their wastes in order to ensure safety and cleanliness as well as ensure safe evacuation by government agencies stressing that the people should not forget their role in governance by always doing the right thing.

Recall, Governor Rochas Okorocha had pegged the deadline for the final relocation of Ekeonunwa market for Sept. 30th, 2016 and it is wrong for anybody to expect government to continue in spending huge sums of money to evacuate a possibly avoidable situation like heaps of garbage scattered on the road in deviance and utmost violation of its policy on relocation.

While most of the traders have heeded this directive and quickly moved to the new site, others are head bent on staying back as a mark of protest against the policy.

The fact remains, that nobody or group of persons can fight government and succeed,therefore,those thinking in negative direction should refrain,see beyond self, instead, the big picture of a better tomorrow for the future generations.
