The Story of Ibadan Taxi driver Samaritan and The Police: Admonition for Faithfuls
On the 23rd of September, a facebook user, Johnson abbaly discolsed on his timeline the story of a taxi driver in Ibadan who honestly returned a whooping sum of N170,000 and other valuables found in his cab to the owner with the aid of the Nigeria Police Force's (NPF) gallant and patriotic personnels in the capital city of Oyo State. This, ever since it occured had sprang up series of encomium from the general public while some have chosen the otherwise in condemning the good Samaritan's patriotic and honest action considering the economic recession and the challenges being encountered by Nigerians, great temptations Mr. Damilare overcame.
The Episode was naturally shot in Ibadan with the scene of a patriotic taxi man, Mr Damilare Adesiyan, who picked up a passenger, at Mokola Round-about in Ibadan, whose destination is Iwo Road. The passenger, who unveiled himself as Mr Balogun Segun in one of the comments on the Facebook post of Mr Johnson, kept his luggage in the booth of the taxi cab all through the trip, on getting to his unknown destination, the excitement of discovering the location entangled him and caused the loss of his belongings in the taxi cab, as narrated by the passenger on the maiden edition of The Conversation programme of Splash FM radio station on Saturday, 8th October, 2016.
Immediately it was realised that something important was missen on him, he got into disarray and saw the world "crashing" on him, with in the period of searching for the missing bag, as a result of valuable documents of contract existing on the Personal Computer PC (Laptop) in his missen bag without a backup. Fortunately for him, not too long after enquiring for the taxi man at the bustop he got Mr Damilare's call.
On the side of Mr Damilare, after he realised the passenger, Mr Balogun, alighted from the cab forgetting his bag, he brought it out and checked in order to be sure it contained legitimate and not incriminating contents before alerting the police. He was amazed as he found cash and some other valuables in it but he never allowed his hustling state to shadow his wise decision as he had been unable pay his house rent for a while. The worst was he being unable to leave fund for his wife for feeding when he left home and as well buying fuel on credit to pilot Mr. Balogun to his destination from Mokola while the passenger was on board. Reasons enough for him to keep the cash and sell the valuables but he held on to his integrity.
Mokola police station in Ibadan received the report and swiftly acted towards ensuring contact was established with the owner of the belongings, which is highly commendable. Many Nigerians already lost hope in the Nigerian Police Force as a result of some of their misdemeanor in the past. This occurrence has revealed that the police force still contains personnels with honesty, loyalty, patriotism and dutiful characters and training. It also denotes that reorientation and training has been embarked upon to guide the force personnels in their respective jurisdictions in order have an utmost performance in the safety of life and properties across Nigeria.
The joint effort of the two parties, the taxi man and the police personels deserve recognition and honors even though the police were on their duties. We can also deduce from this allegory that honesty, faithfulness, patriotism, loyalty as enshrined in our National Anthem and National pledge, still exist in our society having our economy in recession and many average Nigerians hustling for daily survival. It is also a message to the Muhammad Buhari led government to fast track sustainable and adequate projects that will directly impact on the masses and alleviate our hardships.
God Bless Mr. Damilare, God Bless Nigeria Police Personels, God Bless Nigerian Police Force, God Bless Nigeria.
