Are they actually keeping a balance/being conservative or they are busy pedaling lies about their society. More like showing people what they think their society looks like. We are talking of society where:

1. oppression of women and girls are order of the day

2. child marriage is order of the day (I am sure such does not feature in any of their movies. They seems to fail to understand that the movies industry is also a way of exposing the evils in our society)

3. people procreate without any thoughts about the well-being of the both the child-bride and the numerous offspring

Of course there is a huge divide between the South and the North in terms of ideology and these ideological differences is a manifestation of both the economical and social progress the South has made since the attainment of independence, while the North wallows in the dark. The difference in ideology could be see in the court victory in the SE in which girls now have the legal right to share in their parents inheritances ( if not for Nollywood most people never knew that in some place girls are not allowed to partake in their father will).

Oppression is oppression but in trying to understand issues and how it affects a particular group of people in relation to others, Ii will start by looking at oppression in terms of severity.


My dear, I doubt if you really understand the level of oppression that women faced everyday up North, I guess you probably have spent all your live in the North (at least where your ego is massage as a man), if you have really lived in the South, you would understand that the issue of equal right when it comes to inheritance was something that has its root on the progress that have been made in terms of gender equality in the South. Female are allowed to make their choice and chart their own path in life. In most families female as well as male child have equal opportunity to pursue any field of endeavor they so desire.

Females are treated as human who have both the capability and talent to achieve as much or even more than male, rather than being seen as subhuman.

If and when the North solves the few endemic problems of gender inequality that exposes female child into becoming child-bride then we can talk about the problem of inheritance (I and most Nigerians will he happy if the North as a whole start having serious discussions about some of the cruel life that women and female child face up North).

Insecurity is a 'disease' in the North! I have sent considerable amount of time up there, I once saw a child-bride with her child, it was traumatizing witnessing such.

I really do not know how their minds work up there, how can grown men with purportedly sufficient level of how the world works (Northern elites and the educated) since condone such as at this present age and time. It is sad, their religion/prophet may have gotten away with that ( that I can attribute to the fact that the level of understanding of child psychology back then is nothing close to the progress that have been in the area in these present days) but now we know better and these guys are not making any effort towards either even having a conversation about it.

I am really tired of these people,, to be honest I see the North as God's 'punishment' to the South, without them, Nigeria to be honest would have made tremendous progress in every aspects. Seriously they should have been annexed with the likes of Chad and Niger.

Can there be any form of oppression that is comparable with being treated as an outcast? For ur information, the I'll treatment of women in the north exists but in ur imagination. Few weeks ago, a 25yr old girl was made a LG chairman in Kebbi state and ur folks were also on this forum spewing their usual trash. Pls, is this possible in any southern state? I will tell u that the type of freedom u are talking about is not even desired by our ladies. Freedom to insult ur husband and parents, freedom to go to wherever u want, with or without ur husband consent, freedom to go unclad and be clubbing, name them. Finally, I will tell u that a northerner treats his female children with more dignity than the males. Eg, how many female Streets urchins have u seen on the streets of Kano? Let me tell u, even the well to do educated parents spend more on their female children than on the males, go and find out.
