Osihmen got 5 African best ? Presidential honour ? BBC best ? Former eagles captain? Highest goalscorer in any league? BBC player of the year ? Champions league winner ? If osihmen got half of these he will have the biggest voice in Eagles

Osimhen has been serie A young player of the year award winner, Marc Vivien Foe player of the year awardee, player of the month awardee in serie A and Ligue 1, most expensive Nigerian player ever... Going by your logic, he is definitely the biggest voice on the super eagles

By lesbianism do you mean teammates having s*x with each other on camp or just being gay. I don't think the former happens oh.

This is an excerpt from an article recently released by Aljazerra.

Cynthia Uwak claims she was iced out if the team cause of the sexual preference. She also claims Ucharia Uche is a closeted lesbian. Interesting read.

A scapegoat
In 2004, aged just 18, Cynthia Uwak made her international debut for Nigeria; her performance instantly announced her as a star to watch out for.

The attacker was a key part of the Super Falcons’ runs at the 2004 and 2006 WAFCON and was adjudged Africa’s best player by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 2006 and 2007. There was an unmistakable sense among pundits, industry insiders and fans that this was a player of truly historic.

However, as she turns 36 this July, she has gone close to 12 years since her last appearance for Nigeria.

After missing the 2010 WAFCON due to an injury, she was surprisingly dropped from the Super Falcons’ squad to the World Cup the following year. Aside from unsuccessful calls by members of the public to recall her to the national team in 2016, Uwak has simply vanished from the public eye.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, she said her exclusion from the national team was on account of her sexual preference. “Some of the best players were left out of the squad because they were practising lesbians,” she confirmed.“It was a long time ago, but it’s something I still remember because that was why I stopped playing in the national team

https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2022/7/29/in-african-womens-football-homophobia-still-impedes-progress?sf168648872=1

So the rumours are true then, really wish we can sit down and handle this sexuality issue, Cynthia Uwak was too good to be dropped like that, lots of female Western teams have openly gay players it hasn't slowed their performance.

On this subject, first I think we need to first realize that this was 2010, most of that western world had not even legalized same-sex marriage. Many persons were at the time still coming around the idea. Like I opined in an earlier comment, even Obama at the time was making contrary statements on the subject. This doesn't of course excuse discrimination of any kind, just wanted to add some context.

As I speak, same-sex relationship is a criminal offence in Nigeria and most of Africa having prison sentences if convicted. If you put the matter to a vote today, an overwhelming majority of Africans would vote to criminalise same-sex relationships, it's just where we are. It's just the same way polygamy is seen as barbaric and criminal in the US and the western world.

That said, players and officials alike have to understand the peculiarities of Africa. I personally stand against discrimination of any kind, but we still have to deal with the laws are they are in Africa, and until they are changed we have to find a way to work around them.

1. Relationships of any kind should be discouraged amongst players.

2. Players who are gay should understand the peculiarities of nations in Africa and may have to be for the most part closeted.

3. Coaches shouldn't penalize players for their sexual decisions as long as it doesn't affect the team.

The only problem I forsee is if a player wants to use their platform as some form of advocacy for gay right.

Rivers Angels pulls out of Aiteo Federation Cup.

We wish to inform the general public and our esteemed fans on our decision to opt out of this year's Aiteo Federation Cup.

This decision is coming after due deliberations amongst the team's management and staff to explore the options before us. Consequently, Rivers Angels FC will not be partaking in this year's competition.

The club have also officially notified the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of this development and expressed their regrets as well.

Part of the reasons for the withdrawal is due to the fact that seven out of the 15 players retained by the club are currently unavailable due to national team engagements. Five are with the U-20 Women's National team while two (from Ghana and Cameroon) are also away at the moment.

The Rivers Angels team are then left with just eight players and are currently undergoing a recruitment process ahead of the next football season which makes it difficult to proceed with this year's Aiteo Cup.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused the Federation and our teeming fans while assuring that we shall be back in a bigger way next time.

Signed

Management

Players do understand the peculiarities of same sex sexuality in Africa, we are yet to see anyone come openly or advocate for it, problem is more of 3 where coaches and officials are quick to dismiss any player on grounds of homosexuality, teams have rules, lots of teams have rules on things like sex and drinking when in camp, we have seen players punished for bringing in women in their camp or sneaking out so for homosexual players it shouldn't be big deal to ask them to avoid matters of dating or anything while in camp too.

Great point here…. When you’re in the National team, whatever sexual relationship you’re having should be kept aside, play well for us. When you’re out you can do your dirty shit…

Again, we should discuss that particular incident contextually, it was 2010. Also, to the best of my knowledge, Uwak seem to be the only super falcons player for became a victim because of this.

Can we make room for the assumption that perhaps she was open about it? Maybe not to the entire nation, but enough to have gotten that kind of attention. If by her own admission, other players in the team have same sexual preference, why was she the only one to have been iced out. The only other complaint noted in that article is the fact that players do not have the liberty to openly identify as gay, but only Uwak seem to have become a victim.

My point remains, no player should be axed from the team because of their sexual preference. That's discrimination, pure and simple.

Players however should realize that same-sex relationship is still criminal in Nigeria and by extension Africa, and may have to be closeted perhaps throughout their time in the national team till there is a change in the laws in Africa.

Players who aren't comfortable being closeted are free to advocate for the cause, it's well within their right. They however shouldn't be surprised if there are consequences as the moral fabric of most African nations (rightly or wrongly) doesn't make room for homosexuality.

Shooting from outside the box is another aspect the super falcons need to work on... I've observed that Southern African teams at all level are quite good with it ..
