President Mohammadu Buhari, Change Mantra and National Interest by Nobody: 7:48am On Oct 11, 2016
Following the emergence of the President Mohammedu Buhari in 2015, there was and there still a hope of most Nigeria citizenry that the wroth that has cloned the nation will be fixed between space of four years, if that be. As times unfolds, the hopes and aspirations of the citizens began to dimishes. What may have informed the hopes may have been the supposed very fast and furious magic wands that President Mohammedu Buhari possesses has.

However, I will like to point out a number of issues. One, it is gray propaganda to assume that a person represent a change mantra when he is a saint while everybody else is a suspect. Some changes may need to be enforced with all political will available. It is quite unfortunate that our political system is woven round personality political cultism rather than building sustainable governmental institutions. By personality political cultism, I mean we rather consolidate on a political figure who is assumed to above the law and from been criticized as at when due. The polity is saturated with disbelief and the people are growing lean in the aspirations towards government. From the electoral system, to the degradation of our value system, the wroth in governance, to the almost valveless educational system, to the emaciation of the economy et al. Lets never jump into conclusion that this multi-hydra problem started in 2011. We will fall I serious fallacy if we do that.

Ab initio Nigeria independence, the proponents of Political Independence failed to ensure that they have to build the national paraphernalias and national interest superceding regional and personal interests. What did get in return, political parties were woven round regional Politics rather than a nation outfit. Failure of intra-party democracies paved way to party party and acrimony. And such parties, in the likes of Action Group, Arewa Peoples Forum and the NCNC in the respective regions. That's why in January, 15, 1966, a coup d'etat came up and that further consolidated the hausa-Igbo dichotomy, give rise to a new historical paradigm that an Igbo can not be Nigeria president. This we see today. The militarization of the Nigeria political system was constituted on this said date which the Unitrist Federalism was enforced on the Nigeria Political Federal Structure by the first Nigeria military dictator , Aguisi Ironsi.

Furthermore, this continued until there was oil boom during the what was now refer to Plateau State born militarist, Yakubu Gowon. Nigeria experienced boom in her foreign reserve but no concrete Achieveable for the country, which is the diversification of the economy. This continued to Jonathan's administration, yet we have not gotten anything right in the country. What we have instead is the recycling of Political leadership. When will the Youth stand up to the challenge of leadership.

Second, when you say that the Nation's woes was caused in the last 16 years, let's not also forget that Military Coup d'etat is an aberration to constitutionality. Orderly transfer of power contemplated by the constitutional order is the exception rather than the norm in most post-colonial societies. A change of government often issues from the threat or use of force against the serving regime, a phenomenon designated as a coup d'etat. Coup D'etat is "the most visible and recurrent characteristic" of the political experience of post-colonial societies,. Since an incumbent regime forms part of the constitutional order, its extra-constitutional overthrow is not only illegal but amounts to the high crime of treason. What is the source of their validity, legitimacy, and legislative power of an extra-constitutional order? Can the courts validate usurpation of State power? What then justifies the change mantra then? Corruption is Wholistic and it'a not limited.

Third, Why does we keep recycling politicians who have been voted out of office giving us the same leadership today in thier ages? The answers are not too difficult to answer really, but everything boils down to corruption and misplaced priority. Corruption breeds greed, mediocrity, nepotism, tribalism, self-importance, charlatanism, ineptitude, inefficiency, ineffectiveness, and all the other reasons why, for the past 56 years, we do not seem to have moved forward as far as progress and development is concerned. Those who rule Nigeria in the 1960s would come back 2000s to rule. How do we start taking back our country from these men of yesteryears? The same people have remained in our political landscape for decades with no end in sight. With present system people like Ribadu can never rule, same with Oshiomhole, Olusegun Mimiko, Ghandi Okunuga, Oludare Olayinka, Fabunmi Emmanuel, Oloye Jide. Okunuga Kehinde, Luther, etc. Why does the system favour the old brigade, is it because they control the system?

What the real change seeks is a knowledge-based society, which is difficult to flourish under corrupt rule that has characterized the Nigerian society for decades; we need a society open to new ideas that develops a spirit of critics and enquiry, and has the courage to look at unwelcome realities and addresses them.

Nigeria needs a revolutionary change through implementation of a “Cultural Renaissance Project”. The new elite must be the opposite of the current this epoch monopoly and must be detached and disinterested in the notorious materialistic rapacity of the current Nigerian rulers and irresponsible politicians. Nigeria needs few good rebels against corruption.
