If I were you, I will take time to observe things. Nobody can make you successful by telling you to invest so and so business. You have to find something you.

Also note that business is all about passion. Find something you love, something that solves people's problem.

CAUTION: STAY away from MMM at this stage. Their agents will soon flood here. That shit can crash any moment from now.

I used to think starting a business is that simple but after investing millions on restaurant and bar business I realized that running a business in Nigeria is not as easy as it sounds or look even though the property where the business stands is mine.

One good thing I learned from a business instructor I once had as a ( global business undergraduate)is that no matter how much money or how small money you have don't invest it all in one business. Following that advice saved me from losing my whole money to a failed business.

He advised to always share your capital into three places, invest two to two different businesses and bank the third in case any of the business needed capital injection. After sometime you will figure out what business is more viable and the one that needed to pack up and in some cases you will have the two doing well.

For instance, invest 600k in barbing salon and 600k in export business and bank the rest in case you need capital injection.

Now am not saying you should invest in barbing salon, in fact if you ask me I will say invest in agricultural production and any agro related business, and anything that will make you an exporter.

But the only idea I have takes more money than you have so, I won't advice it. You just need to go low enough to share your money into three.

Op, This guy above me made sense and let me point out something to you. It's ironic sometimes how one gets capital but no business idea to invest in and when no capital you tend to see lots of business opportunities.

I can only help you by telling you to buy enough data, Get on youtube and go download every documentary on Warren Buffet (The Oracle of Omaha), You would learn one or two about investment.

Don't mean to sound religious but communicating with God through study of the word under the direction of the Holyspirit opens us up to the Universal Creative Mind, from which all ideas that created all that we have and will see in this world flow. And because your mind is a subset of that mind, ideas will flow to you. It is just understanding of the fact that 'It is He that giveth thee power to will and to do'. Infact, right now, ideas are flowing to you from the Universal Creative Mind. You just need to raise your antenna. That's the reason different people in different locations often come up with same kind of concepts, because, it is in the air....everywhere around you, validating another truth 'for the things which are seen are temporal but the things which are not seen are eternal' knowing therefore that the world in which we live now, was formed by the word of God. Good news is you have the mind of God(Christ). That is what the word says. My 2cents.

In any case if being a co - executive producer of a cinema movie soon to be released appeals to you, will be glad to bring you on board. Cheers.

The reason why you go cold feet is because you have not found that idea that is in SYNC with your personality. Until that happens, you will keep sitting on the fence.

Bro......there are so many business es out there but my advise to you is this

Put that cash in a fixed deposit for either 3 months or 6 months.

Take your time and research various business es here on nairaland.....ie online

You also need to do a physical offline reseach on those business es you ve discovered online.

Some might interest you and others might not.

In summary......make sure you invest in a business that suits your kind of person.

invest in a business that you are passionate about.

I was in your shoes sometime aago....its taken me over 3months but i ve decided to settle for 3 différent businesses.....to be handled by me and my wify.

Note......We ve started some of them in small scale......not investing all our monies in thé businesses.

The businesses grow naturally and then we ré invest into the business.

This strategy reduces our risk of loosing all our money and gives us peace of mind.

These businesses amongst others include....

Sale of used clothes......look out for timmy22 héré on nairaland......shes very good.

Haulage in Lagos is also very lucrative....

Simply google haulage treads here on nairaland.......and others I really cant mention cos of time constraint.....

Wishing you good luckk.

Cheers

With that money you can invest it in Oil and Gas.... Supplying Companies either AGO(diesel) or DPK(kerosene) and they give you an LPO to pay you back in 1,2,3 weeks... the returns and turn over are quite encouraging...you can make as high as 100000k and above in a week....

I agree with you completely.

The current economic realities require proper thinking and evaluation of all variables before making a plunge. One single decision could either make or mar you. Those of you have large amounts and no business experience have to be even more careful.

Please note that inasmuch as satchet(pure) appears to be an easy business to undertake it isn't easy at all. The logistics component of the business is enough to sink any newbie. The incorrigible tendencies of the driver and accompanying salesmen will shock even the devil himself. There is also the costing problem of the materials for the packaging.
Redo a proper assessment of your situation in terms of the number of pure water factories in the neighbourhood you wish to set up shop vis as vis the potential effective demand within that territory before taking this all important decision to do or not to do.

There is also a lot of excitement about the Uber taxi model ever since it came into Nigeria. It has been a huge success in other other climes especially the developed ones but a very careful and detailed study will reveal one corollary which is essentially that over 70 per cent of Uber practitioners are directly involved as owner/user/driver. And most of them do it part time.

There are a lot of undertones in the practice of Uber and indeed other imported business models. Normally, your best bet is to tweek these models to reflect and accommodate the the local peculiarities.

Finally the economy at this point is more tolerant of the trading of FMCG. Try not to stock goods but buy and sell fast moving everyday goods that move rapidly and can be demanded effectively by the lower segment of the population triangle.

Look for the thread by Blackky on eggs distribution. It might just give you an idea on how to invest your monies.

Good luck!

On what to do with 2.5Million naira, i know you confused but nairaland is not a place to solicit for such kind of advice.

Moving from your current location may not amount to much.

You may look out for the book titled Acres of Diamonds by Russell H Conwell.
It is a wonderful read and it will help you realign your perspective on location and greener pastures.

I don't know which town you live but if I were your age and had that kind of money, I would divide it into 3 as advised by another poster and buy some really fast moving consumer goods and put them right away in the market. My emphasis would be on products that are not curently available in the my local market or causing certain products to be produced for me. Exclusivity is what you need in any town/territory. if you have this for a good product and from a reliable company then you are in business for as long as that company is in business.

My opinion is that whatever you do please don't go into importation at the moment. You could as well give out the money to a charity. The exchange rate regimen is too volatile at the moment. Get involved in a local type importation that involves moving goods (that are in high demand and required for everyday use) from one location to another within Nigeria. And many of such goods abound, you just need to seek them out.

Good luck!
