So much has happened in the world of technology over the last 10 years. Moore’s Law predicted that the tech we use will grow exponentially; it looks like only further societal changes, developments, innovations, hacks and leaks are on the horizon; and more each year after that.

Our tech-habits have seen leaps and bounds – for better or worse – dominating the decade and the way we live. There have been so many advancements since Knomo started 10 years ago, which means the way we do business and the way we design products has too. We’ve made a list of some of the most exciting advances.

The SmartphoneAnyone
who possesses an iPhone or similar device will agree, it’s hard to imagine life without it. Indeed, it’s actually quite hard for younger people to imagine the world before mobile phones. However, the original smartphone format as we know it came in the form of the LG Prada – the first full ‘touchscreen’.

Our TTS (or, Time To Screen) each morning has been reduced from hours to minutes, to seconds – who else sets there alarm on their phone – safely placing smartphones as the most used tools in our modern lives.

Social Media

Who remembers MySpace? What about Bebo? These sorts of youth platforms gave rise to the online social giant Facebook (actually release 11 years ago, but close enough).
Nine years ago Twitter was created, and five 4 years later Instagram was released.Around 2.1 billion people have social media accounts. Take a moment to let that sink in –that’s a third of the entire human race. 9,100 tweets are sent out every second, and in 2015 alone the same number of ‘images’ in history’srecords will be uploaded to the internet.
There’s no doubt that social media has become another way of life, with its own impacts and opportunities to be gained.

E-Readers

There are two types of people in the world; those who embrace the Kindle and those who maintain that they couldn’t compare to the ‘real feel’ of an actual book. You know, the things where you have to turn the pages.

Preference aside; e-readers have had a huge impact on the way we read. The first Amazonkindle was launched in 2007 priced at $400 and was immensely popular, selling out withinfive and a half hours and remaining out of stock for months.
On-screen reading has opened up a whole new way for us to enjoy written content. Youcan publish an e-book in a matter of minutes;blogs are a trusted source of information; now you wouldn’t find that 10 years ago.

YouTube

When three former PayPal employees set up offices above a pizzeria in San Mateo, California in 2005 to develop an idea about a website they had, they couldn’t have expected it to revolutionise the world of video content and become the third most visited website.
Although it was sold for $1.65 billion in 2006, it is estimated that independently the site is worth $70 billion.
Every day we watch hundreds of millions of hours worth of content, generating billions ofviews. Every minute 300-hours worth of content is uploaded to YouTube. It’s physically impossible to watch every video uploaded to the site as it would take over 1,000 years.
Youtube has opened up people’s lives for the world to see.

Consumer Virtual

RealityHeard of the Oculus Rift? If you haven’t already, it’ll be hitting the shelves in 2016.It’s a visual head-set that we’ve been lucky enough to try a few times now. Visit a country you’ve never been to, or enter a different world entirely.
Interestingly, Facebook bought the start-up in 2014. What does this say about the future of Social Media? Forget stalking your exes holiday photos, next thing you’ll be living it with her.

3D Printers3D

printing is the process of making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital file. This exciting technology is entirely available to the public and the uses for this innovation continue to amaze.
Seen the man who built a robotic hand for hisson? The bridge built by 3D printing as it goes?Actually edible food?Internal organs? The examples above show the potentially limitless options of 3D printing – if you can make the building material (i.e metal, rubber, etc) come out of the printing tube, you can make it!

The Cloud

Hard-drives - and the storage space they included - could make or break a companies capability. Imagine trying to run a startup where sharing files would be limited to a physical USB drive or portable hard-drive; servers are expensive pieces of kit.
Luckily the introduction of 'the cloud' enables people all over the world to upload files to a location accessible by all. Which means businesses, universities and any group of people no longer have to worry about their location to share work. Amazing opportunities to collaborate are available to us all.

Space Travel
Ten years ago the idea of a moon-side holiday was reserved for science fiction. Now thanks to the Virgin Galactic ‘Spaceline’ it’s now possible for consumers to travel to the moon. Virgin Galactic are aiming to help ordinary citizens become astronauts.
Virgin are helping us all achieve the goal most of us set ourselves when we were children; to one day go to Space. Is the final frontier a place for everyone?

actually a lot has changed even here in Nigeria we are experiencing real time change. The only thing that has refused to change is that our women still belong to the kitchen and the other room

Many industries are making use of 3d printing metal technologies. It has greatly helped the designers to come up with the best tool to carve out the most complex designs with excellent finishing for making the items.
