I See A Bright Future...ginger Onwusibe by thejurist: 7:42am On Oct 18, 2016 |
Good morning the good people of Isiala Ngwa North LGA I see a bright and great future for our people. Please remember that before 2010 when I was appointed the Transition Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North LGA, our area was a no go area as insecurity reigned supreme. The menace of armed robbery, kidnapping and other vices were the order of the day. Our people at home lived in fear while our people who lived outside couldn't come home. Visitors were afraid to come to our place. Our reputation as a people took a serious nosedive as we were branded all manner of negative names. My appointment as Transition Chairman of our LGA changed the entire narrative. On assumption of office, I tacked the menace head on. I quickly renovated the defunct SDP Party building and liaised with the authorities to bring the military into the place, provided logistic and administrative support for them and together we stamped out criminality in our local government and today, peace, security and tranquility have returned and our people now sleep with their two eyes closed. In taking this step, I stood against all manner of opposition from some people who believe that the local government is their patrimony and who fought tooth and nail against the move. Today, our people are better for it. In 2010, on assumption of office as Transition Chairman of our LGA, I met a Council in total disarray and a workforce reeling from 9 months arrears of salaries. Morale was at all time low. The immediate past elected Council Administration left a badly battered work force together with a huge debt profile of 120 million Naira which was a loan procured by that administration barely two months to its exit from office. It is on record that even with our tight financial profile but with efficient management, we able, not only to clear all the salary arrears but we repaid every kobo of that loan and got a Certificate of Non Indebtedness from First Bank Plc to that effect. We took to the front burner the issue of the welfare of our workers and ensured that salaries were paid promptly. I recall with pride that in December 2010, Isiala Ngwa North LGA under my watch was the only Council that ensured that workers salaries were paid in full before Christmas. The records are there. Records don't lie. That is not all. Our people will recall how the last elected administration embarrassed our people by purporting to commission uncompleted projects. At our Council Headquarters , uncompleted buildings with no basic facilities were "commissioned". A building with no proper flooring, rough walls with no plasters and no tiles was commissioned by the same people who lay unfounded patrimonial claims to the leadership of our people. My dear people of Isiala Ngwa North LGA, I am a performer with an illustrious track record of top performance in office. As an appointed Transition Chairman, my records speak for themselves. Under my watch as your Chairman and under tight financial guidelines, rural roads were graded, the salaries and other entitlements of our Council workers were laid on time. We promoted Sports Development initiatives across the Local Government. We built a Garri Processing Plant. We built and upgraded our rural markets. We embarked on deliberate empowerment schemes for our young men and women. We encouraged the development of agriculture and small scale farming through the provision of fertilizers for our farmers. We intuited and completed rural electrification projects. We shook up the health sector by building new and modern Health Centres. We also renovated and reactivated abandoned ones. In the last 2015 general elections and as we fought for the election of an Abia Governor of Ukwa Ngwa extraction, I led from the front. I led a coalition of progressive forces which ensured, against all odds that the dream of our people to produce a Governor for our dear state for the very first time in our history is a reality today. In the thick of that period, my personal safety and that of my family were put on the line. But for me, the emergence of our son as Governor was the most primary consideration at that time. Today, the political history of our people have been rewritten and I am proud to have played a leading role in that historic struggle. As a private individual, I have never shied away from our people. The beautiful round about at Orie Amapu Ntigha with solar powered light is a testimony to my commitment to our people. We have completed the grassing of a mini stadium for our people, a project I undertook in my private capacity. When our Governor launched the ADOPT A SCHOOL PROJECT across the state, I keyed in and as we speak the Three Classroom Project which I adopted is nearing completion. We are at the roofing stage now. Currently, two hundred and twenty of our youths from across the entire Council have been trained in various areas under our sponsorship. God willing, by December this year, we shall equip each and every one of them so they can start a life of independence and sustainability. Please check my records of performance. They speak for themselves. If all of these could be achieved as an appointed Chairman, then expect more from me when you elect me as your Chairman. As elections approach, the same people who lay false claims of ownership of our Council have, in their usual style, raised a stooge who shall do their bidding and continue their dangerous stranglehold on our people and our resources. Never and never again shall we allow a group of desperate politicians to hold our people to ransom again. We must elect credible people to run our affairs. This must start by the election of credible delegates who will in turn elect the candidates of our party. We must rise above primordial sentiments and do the right thing. Elect a man of the people. Elect a man with veritable records of performance. Elect Chief Ginger Onwusibe, WSE for Chairman, Isiala Ngwa North LGA.
