lastly, this is a statuary of nubians queens and prietesses. the most well know is amunerdis, she was considered the wife of amun, i guess she would be similar to a nun.

this is the lion temple at "muswawwarat es sufra" in northern sudan
the person of the left is king Arenkhamani in the middle is the god Horus followed by the king wife in the right
i think this is what scholars consider the meriotic period in northern sudan.

i don't want to sound superstitious but this one nubian statue spook me out sometimes when i view it. it seems like that it is piercing in your soul somehow, as if it could speak. needless to say, the artwork is superb for it time. it is called the "Aegis of Isis. it was founded at the ruined temple of kawa in northern sudan and dated the late 3rd century B.C.

this temple complex or residence is very unique and it deserve our attention for further study and investigation. it is the great zimbabue. it is in the modern state of zimbabue and created by the shona people. i think the complex was created during the 10th or 15 century AD. needless to say, it is a architextual marvel to behold.

temple of soleb:http://lh3.ggpht.com/_cVQn7t5rUAY/SfL8zcITL5I/AAAAAAAADgc/_AE2pfC34xI/IGB_9804.JPG
this temple is located at the 3rd cataracts in northern sudan. the temple was built during the new kingdom pharanic era by the pharaoh Amenophis and his nubian wife queen tiye. the temple was dedicated to them and they elevated themselves as gods to the local people. amenophis and his wife queen tiye are the parents of Akhenaton and the grandparents to a unimportant, and insignificant pharaoh by the name of king tut.

these images are so beautiful. I didnt know Sudan had so much heritage independent of modern Egypt.

wasnt Sudan considered part of Libya at one time? Some of those temples look like the ones found there (in Libya)

beautiful:

I think I may have seen an Isis statue in a museum. Very striking, I agree.

no, sudan was never part of libya. only relationship we had with libya is probably land area, and trade with the two nations in the past. however, the only nations northern sudan had with common with is egypt and possibly ethiopia. The history of sudan and egypt was very interwine throughout the millenniums. sometimes it is hard to tell which pharaohs is sudanese or egyptian. take for instance the old kingdom pharaoh huni the father of the pharaoh who built the great pyramid of giza khufu. scholars are still debating whether the pharaoh huni is actually egyptian or cushite from the bust of this picture.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huni

is this pharaohs egyptian or ethnic cushite, it is hard to tell. one thing is certain that the people that live in parts of upper egypt from luxor and aswan are indeed cushite or sudanese in origin. however, during ancient times nubians were broken up into many different tribes. the nubians that live in the egyptian side of the border was mostly part of egypt, however the people that live beyond the 2 cataracts were part of the many different ethnicity of the sudan.
Re: Show Pictures Of Africas Art And Archaeological Treasures by ababda: 4:42am On Oct 26, 2009
one thing is certain sudanese history is vast and long, and it had many so called different periods
the first period is the "kerma period"
second period "pharaonic or napatan period"
third period "meroitic period"
fourth period "christian period which was between 5th century AD until 12th or 15th century"
lastly "islamic period"
yes, most northern sudanese use to be christian
from my perspective i feel that all africans at one time came from this region, between parts of upper egypt and of course northern sudan. why do i say this? if you look a the sudanese population today, it is extremely diverse. it seems as if every african face on the continent is very well represented there. in northern sudan, you have many of the population that resembles ethiopians, eriteans, and somalis, and some look very ancient egyptian, but you have some people that look like so called west african or bantu, and a few look similar to north african berbers. sudan is extremely diverse indeed. here is a few videos of singers that reflexs the country diversity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoJ7li-7Zwo this is the nubian singer muhammed wardi very popular in sudan, horn africa, and yemen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F3jrHjpjAY this group is one of my favorite and they are from south sudan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4zwqw4C3Rk&feature=related: to me she is like a sudanese versian of shirley temple. lol but her singing is good

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6fiqtp1te4 music from eastern sudan (kids)beja ethnic group, these people can be also found in upper egypt, and also eritera. yes , sudan is extremely diverse!

i cannot believe that polish created a stamp out of one of our christian bishops, however the polish as well as other europeans dig a great deals of our monuments in sudan and place them in their museums. it is funny in a country that is predominately white they have a blackman from the 10th century on stamp. i find this kind of interesting.

here is a short video from you tube i found about christian nubia, however there is a wealth of information about christian nubia on the net. they fought the muslim for over 700 years, until infighting among the nubian elite in sudan.

I've met a few Sudanese but no one who looks like him, so far.

smileythis guy looks so Asian. Is he mixed?

no, my brother muhammed wardi is not mix, if you look at the other videos, he appearance is very common in sudan and upper egypt, he is straight up nubian from the north born at the egypt boarder. there are many of him in sudan without mixing with so called other races. also many people especially from the horn of africa look also very similar.
Re: Show Pictures Of Africas Art And Archaeological Treasures by ababda: 3:05pm On Oct 26, 2009
also, the guy is 80 years old. he was born during the time when sudan and egypt was one country until independence from the british, and not many asians venture that far down the nile. smiley he is nubian through and through, he still do sing in the nubian language from time to time.

one might mistake them for tuaregs.

she also looks Nigerian/west African.

I thought Nigeria was diverse but Sudan is more. So many different peoples situated close to each other. Amazing, really.

i love it tpia, but sometimes i think that is where the problems starts, however, on the ground level people usually get along, but it is these politicans that cement these differences. i think that is the problem. many northerns like myself feel this way, and some of us even join the spla. that is a political party in southern sudan.

I love this song.

What is she singing about?

I notice its some kind of gathering- a wedding maybe?
Re: Show Pictures Of Africas Art And Archaeological Treasures by ababda: 3:18pm On Oct 26, 2009
that is so cool. cheesy i feel that all of africa was lived in the nile valley at one. that is the reason why we have so many of these damn monuments. lol. however, the government is providing roads in these areas, and the UAE have invested money and is restoring some of the pyramids and ancient temples in the north to prepare for tourism once the dust is settled in darfur, and the election in the south of the country whether they stay part of sudan or separate and form a new country.
Re: Show Pictures Of Africas Art And Archaeological Treasures by ababda: 3:25pm On Oct 26, 2009
it is like a love song, but without being perverse. however, she won a award for best singer of that year hence the reason for the the gathering.
