EMMAACHILE: Thanks, so I can also buy 3 bags of broiler starter for the first month. I want construct a big wooden cage of 8ft(L) x 8ft(B) x 5ft(H) for 50 noiler hope it will contain them all through the four months? |
Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by Nobody: 11:19am On Nov 30, 2016 |
Fargbaba:Assuming it can be larger like 12ft by 8ft. The standard measurement is 3 feet per square inch meaning 8*8feet will be 64/3=21 chicken size or 64/2=32 chickens using 2 feet per square. |

Day 34 I administered garlic with onion to about 6 litres of water overnight yesterday and by morning the water was almost finished. Below are pictures of the chicks two days ago and on free range outside their pen. 1 Like

Second picture below shows loss of feathers and I suspect low crude protein as being responsible as I used grower feed from vitalfeed and hybrid in the last two weeks. I will boosting the meal with 15% roasted soyabeans to push the crude protein to about 20% today Formula is this 48*15 (soybeans cp*percent of meal) + 15*85 (hybrid grower cp*percent of meal) =720+1275/100 Average of 19.95 crude protein After this I will use vitalfeed broiler finisher or broiler finisher concentrate for the remaining weeks

EMMAACHILE:ONE QUESTION BRO: what is the feed consumption of these birds? do they eat like broilers? if so, why would u raise a bird for 14 weeks when u can attain similar results with broilers at 8 - 9 weeks. what is the average weight of these birds right now? U see bro, I'm following ur posts like crazy. I'm attracted to noilers based on what I heard that they can eat low quality feed and still do well, just that it might take them a little longer to reach market weight. I am planning to experiment on them next year. So your thread and that of kayo80 is trying to help me decide on the optimum trade-off between lower feed costs and longer rearing (and feeding) period. so far, I do not see the logic in using the same grade of feed i would use for broilers to feed noilers. It will only make me spend more on feeding. am also considering the fact that a lot of people will want to down price is as local chicken. I would either need to sell by kg (low total sales value due to reduction in dressed weight) or sell at even lower prices to the middle men. 1 Like |

obstead200:My view is this, the noilers we have in Nigeria might not be the same with the popular kuroiler breed. The only difference I see between noilers and broilers will be meat quality. The meat will definitely be better. The feed consumption from my view is same as broilers. It's very possible to attain over 2kg in weight if fed broiler feed in 10 weeks or attain 3kg in 12 weeks. Currently I should be approaching 1kg in 5 weeks using a combination of broiler starter, chick mash, grower feeds. In the next few weeks, I will be able to tell the difference in cost of raising broilers vs noilers. |

obstead200 Average weight as at 30 days was 500g. I will weigh them this week after 5 weeks. |

obstead200: I would advise you stick with Broilers. I am rearing Noilers for personal reasons... Profits is not my sole purpose. |
Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by Fargbaba: 4:24pm On Nov 30, 2016 |
EMMAACHILE: Thanks alot. May be I will make two of that 8ft x 8ft so I can separate them into two at week 10 or construct 12ft x 8ft at once, just that I have limited space and free range is not an option. |

Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by Nobody: 5:53pm On Nov 30, 2016 |
kayo80:Noilers can still be raised commercially but the only downside I see is that disparity in size between them. Some grow so big and other small. Apart from that, it is a good breed. I am raising mine for personal consumption so I have no problem of any target. After this, I will go for three different breeds and raise together 1. Isa brown or tetra harco layers 2. white cockerels 3. Cobb 700 broilers Maybe even add local turkey for free range in the compound. I don't normally sell my Poultry. 1 Like |

jfkenny:Both are similar in their use in poultry. Onion is known to increase water intake in poultry than garlic but with similar work like garlic. I administer in the ratio of 1:4 onion:garlic to water and use for two days in their water. The first day is said to work on antibiotic activity in poultry and the second day will boost their immune system. Onion is known and more reliable in that field. Garlic (Allium sativum) and onion (Allium cepa) are among the common medicinal plants used as growth promoters. These functions were attributed to bioactive components present in garlic, that could be responsible for the growth promoting effect of garlic. Onion is also a rich source of this substance. 2 Likes |

Re: My Noiler Farm Experience (hybrid Of Broiler + Cockerel) by kayo80(m): 8:01pm On Nov 30, 2016 |
EMMAACHILE: That's the biggest issue with Noilers. If Amo Hatchery could just pack them separately (male separately from female), then it would be perfect. The females are too small compared to the male, and because they (female) look like local chicken, it might be hard to sell. 1 Like |

kayo80:True talk. I saw some red cockerel from karmadex hatchery, I was amazed. Uniform growth but matures in 4 to 5 months. I have a friend that does not like broilers meat because of its tender and soft nature. What he does is to feed the broilers grounded maize after ten weeks for about two weeks to slaughter. The maize hardens and sweetens poultry meat and he slaughters at 12 weeks with meat tasting like cockerels This method is also used on turkey broiler meat too. They are fed dried maize for two weeks before slaughter which sweetens the meat. 4 Likes |

kayo80:hmmm. interesting advice. i will still try a few noilers next year anyway. I will try to minimise cost of feed by combining local materials as best as possible. i will track my costs and see what i get in 12 to 14 weeks. 2 Likes |

I called Amo farms today to ask about their recommendation of feed type for noilers and this is what the lady told me Males 0-28 days = broiler starter 29-70 days= grower Above 70 days= finisher Females 0-28 days = broiler starter 29-98 days= grower Above 98 days= layer mash The females start laying from the 17th week. This means separately the males and females from the 10th week (70 days). Thats plenty stress in my opinion. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Turks:Day 37 Danger: saw blood poo in two places. I had to locate the victim and isolate outside the pen. I am suspecting it of contracting it from a three week old litre in my garden who was filled and used as manure for my bitter leaf and scent leaf tree. Pictures to come later. Treatment: I mixed prococ and keproceryl in 6 litres of water and 1.5 litres for the victim isolated outside. I have cleared the garden and wait for it to dry before releasing the chicks outside in the evening. |
