ICYMI: HERE ARE 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE FBI’S REOPENED CLINTON INVESTIGATION

Over the weekend, The Wall Street Journal published a genuine bombshell report detailing the latest developments in the FBI’s renewed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server and the Clinton Foundation.

Among the revelations are news of a split among FBI officials over how deep and aggressive the probes should go, Department of Justice attempts to inhibit the investigation, and the national scope of probes into the Democratic presidential candidate and Clinton Foundation.

Here are the fast facts:

1. There are 650,000 more emails the FBI believes are “pertinent” to the Clinton investigation. These emails were discovered on a laptop investigators believe was used by former congressman and longstanding creep Anthony Weiner while looking for child pornography. According to the WSJ, “underlying metadata suggests thousands of those messages could have been sent to or from the private server that Mrs. Clinton used while she was secretary of state.”

2. The FBI is feuding internally. Investigators wanted to begin a parallel investigation into the Clinton Foundation, to determine if donors were given special access and favors, while senior FBI officials “repeatedly voiced skepticism” of doing so. “Frustrated” agents reportedly felt that FBI leadership was “uninterested” in probing the “charity.” Could it have been personal? Recall that Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe’s wife received $467,500 in campaign contributions from Clinton ally and current Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe while running for Virginia state senate in 2015. The McCabes, McAuliffe, and the FBI vehemently deny any conflict of interest.

3. There were four FBI field offices collecting information about the Clinton Foundation. Four. Located in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, and Little Rock, Ark., these offices were seeking evidence of “financial crimes or influence-peddling.” The L.A. office obtained information they believed were pertinent regarding the Clinton Foundation from an unrelated public-corruption case and had issued subpoenas for bank records. Meanwhile, the Washington office was poking around Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe financial ties as a former Clinton Foundation board member.

4.The Obama Justice Department is playing defense for the Clintons. FBI officials reportedly presented their evidence to the Justice Department in February, but the DOJ tried to shut down the investigation. Sources that participated in the meeting described the DOJ officials as “stern, icy and dismissive” of the evidence. Prosecutors from the DOJ apparently told the FBI at this meeting that they “wouldn’t authorize more aggressive investigative techniques, such as subpoenas, formal witness interviews, or grand jury activity.” When the FBI’s probe continued in line with the instructions, a “very pissed off” Justice Department official allegedly called Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, demanding an explanation.

5. This is not going to be resolved before the election. Definitely not. If they haven’t done so already, the FBI needs to obtain a search warrant for the Clinton emails, because those emails are not related to their Weiner investigation. They will need to sift through these emails, determine if they contain any classified information, review duplicates … it could be months before the we have another announcement from Director Comey. Hillary Clinton could very well be president by then. And if Obama’s Justice Department is already playing defense for the Clinton Foundation, how much more pressure will be put on investigators from a DOJ run by President Clinton?
Questions abound as the Hillary Clinton email saga continues unabated with no end in sight. But the most relevant question will be answered in a week:

For the first time in American history, will the president-elect be under FBI investigation? Or will voters finally put an end to Hillary Clinton’s political ambitions and abuse of power?
