1 The Korean soccer player, Ahn jung-hwanwho scored and knocked Italy out of the 2002 World Cup, immediately lost his contract with his Italian club Perugia for ‘ruining Italian soccer' https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahn_Jung-hwan In the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Ahn scored an extra-time header in the round of 16 game against Italy that sent the South Koreans through to the quarter-finals. The next day, Perugia owner Luciano Gaucci cancelled his contract and was quoted as saying, "I have no intention of paying a salary to someone who has ruined Italian football."

2 There are only two professional football players who played two competitive matches in different countries on the same day - both played for Bayern Munich. Søren Lerby in 1985: For Denmark against the Republic of Ireland in a World Cup qualifier and later in the evening in the DFB-Pokal match with Bayern Munich against VFL Bochum in Germany. Mark Hughes in 1987: For Wales against Czechoslovakia in Prague in a EURO 88 qualifier and later that same day, as a substitute for Bayern Munich against Mönchengladbach in Germany. |

5 World cups 2010 & 2014 the the First Time 2 Consecutive World Cups Are Not Hosted In Europe. Normally after a World Cup has been hosted outside Europe, it was Europe that would host the next tournament 4 years later. However the previous World Cups was hosted in Africa(south Africa) and south America (brazil) respectively. It is European country "Russia" which will host the next World Cup in 2018. |

most hilarious and unusual match ever played - Barbados vs Grenada in 1994 "Grenada went into that match with a superior goal difference, meaning that Barbados needed to win by two goals to progress to the finals. The trouble was caused by two things. First, unlike most group stages in football competitions, the organizers had deemed that all games must have a winner. All games drawn over 90 minutes would go to sudden death extra time. Secondly and most importantly, there was an unusual rule which stated that in the event of a game going to sudden death extra time the goal would count double, meaning that the winner would be awarded a two goal victory. Barbados was leading 2-0 until the 83rd minute, when Grenada scored, making it 2-1. Approaching the dying moments, the Barbadians realized they had little chance of scoring past Grenada's mass defense in the time available, so they deliberately scored an own goal to tie the game at 2-2. This would send the game into extra time and give them another half hour to break down the defense. The Grenadians realized what was happening and attempted to score an own goal as well, which would put Barbados back in front by one goal and would eliminate Barbados from the competition. However, the Barbados players started defending their opposition's goal to prevent them from doing this, and during the game's last five minutes, the fans were treated to the incredible sight of Grenada trying to score in either goal while Barbados defended both ends of the pitch. Barbados successfully held off Grenada for the final five minutes, sending the game into extra time. In extra time, Barbados notched the game-winner, and, according to the rules, was awarded a 4-2 victory, which put them through to the next round." |

16 Hosting the 2006 World Cup caused Germany to experience baby boom. Nine months after the football competition, birthrate in Germany was up to 30% higher compared to the same period in the year before that. 17 During Christmas of 1914 (during WW1), a truce was held between Germany and UK. They decorated their shelters, exchanged gifts across no man’s land and played a game of football between themselves. 18 At the age of 4, American world cup soccer star Abby Wambach, during her first youth soccer league was transferred from the girls’ team to the boys’ team after she scored 27 seven goals in just three games. |
