There are many things that are gifted from a mother to a daughter, and one of the most inspiring gifts any mother can give is advice. Most being paste down from generation to generation, trended words coming from grandmother and great grandmother, maybe even further up the ladder. Most of us girls tend to take up the advice or challenge the very gravity of it. For most Eastern cultured girls, testing the weight-age of the advice tends to spill on us, most of the time. The more fortunate Western girls break free of the old housewife tales to experience and create advice of their own. Later on, I guess, most of them figure that they should have listened to their mothers in the first place, but as long as it was worth the adventure. My mother, being of Eastern decent, completely bombarded me with our cultures, traditions, norms, and the inner working of our society. Unfortunate for the both of us was, coming from Eastern roots; I was raised with Western thoughts. Throughout my upbringing both these schools of thought were in constant controversy with one another. Making me the confused mess I so proudly am today. Being a living, breathing, walking product of cultural diffusion, the mixing of everything tends to get a little hectic in the head. The mind sees too many options of resolving issues, too many ways to dress, too many ways to cook, and too many ways to behave. Let’s face it, our roots, the cultures that we represent affect not just the color of our passports or the ethnicity that we check off on forms, it predicts the manner to which we live our lives. Hence, the typical stereotypes that are made to each ethnic group. Now, most people might think, “wow, that’s great that you’re a complete mix, what are you complaining for?” Well, it was never considered a bad aspect of a person’s personality; however, it can only be properly utilized or coped with living in an environment where everyone is a culturally diffused person, like London, Toronto, New York City, or any city in the world that houses massive populations of immigrants. The problem of being culturally diffused occurs when you head back to the mother country. Now being catapulted back to the country of your forefathers with a mixed view of society can be epic-y disastrous for a person. Now you’re back to where your parents started and don’t know how to exactly fit in. The first problem faced was communication. Of course, my mother taught me the language, being of Eastern thought you have to teach your children the original mother tongue, or else parent’s get the feeling that the child will never survive in the world. But thorough and fluent communication of the language was never grasped, because all we spoke was English. So expression of feelings, thoughts, and ideas tend become disarrayed when pronouncing them to people around you. For some unfortunate people, they get labeled as the “ultra-liberal”. Now back in the Mother Country, Mama’s advice is more like a “How-to-Survive” methodology guide. Every aspect of the advice implemented saves you from like committing heinous “crimes”......
