US Elections: A Reply To The Thread By Tonybarcanista. by Esdb3: 5:54am On Nov 09, 2016
This very morning, I read a very obtuse thread made by the user Tonybarcanista. Querying in mocking fashion, why Nigerians are concerning themselves with the US elections.
This is my reply.
When did Nigeria start caring about the US elections? Since the dollar started affecting the Hausa man's fried egg. Since a 1930 born Nigerian grandmother has to concern herself with what the dollar means. Since their policies can affect us. America is a world power. Since almost every democratically elected Nigerian President makes it a duty to visit the US government officially.

When? Since the FBI could tell us how corrupt our own leaders are. Since an American security agency could give us info about our own Sambisa.

Why do we care whether the 'Racist' Trump or the 'racist but silent about it' Hillary becomes president? Since we have more than 20,000 Nigerians leaving in the US. Since Average Nigerians started having dual citizenship of America and Nigeria.

America had the guts to try to impose their gay law on our sovereign state. So yes we care!

Next time, google what World Power means maybe you would have saved me brain power from trying to extirpate your ignorance.
Btw, Soyinka is a Nobel laureate of course people know him in America. Who knows you? I doubt you have ever even stepped the US embassy.

[b]As much as I respect TonyeBarcanista a lot, some of his threads are out of it and I don't bother to comment.

It is very illogical to even ask Nigerians what concerns them about America, it is very clear he lacks an in-depth knowledge of International Relations.

America by the virtue of being the most powerful country on earth has influence such that a change in its foreign policies could have effect on even small countries like Sao Tome and Principe, it is quite instructive to know that foreign policies of a country are partly determined by the personality of the Prime Minister or President of such country; a reason why other countries are interested in the elections of others. It is all about national interest.

Nigerians cannot afford to ignore the personality of the next CEO of White House, not even at this time when the two Presidential candidates are, in my opinion, nothing to write home about. Nigerians are one of the largest immigrants in the world, Nigerians are one of the largest foreigners in the US, so they have a right to be concerned. Even North Korea that is totally anti-US will be closely watching the elections.

Why were Nigerians interested in Brexit? It is simply because they would be affected.

Moreover, this is democracy, people have a right to express their views on anything, foreign policies and politics included.

Lastly, elections in US,UK,Russia,France and China(if any) would around world interests because they are superpowers, their actions and inaction affect the whole world.

This is a challenge for Nigeria to put herself in the rightful place in terms of the economy and foreign policy, then watch out as other foreign nationals have sleepless nights over our elections.

The Truth: It concern itinerant, politicians and few students out of the abundance in nigeria who seek solace in America.

Rural areas barely understands what dollars is to them, cos using it for their day to day activities is inconsequential knowing having naira can save the hunger.

Perspective of which Tonybarcanista used to analyse is quite different from your view point. In conclusion US election no concern us. Whom ever wins does not determine the future of Nigeria. If they like they should be world power but can't be our own leaders.

I have said It before and I am saying it again, Whatever happens in America largely affects Nigeria. It's sad to say we have leaders who kow-tow to the POTUS that sits on White House. This morning the Mexican peso hit a record 10% low in anticipation of a Trump win, the Canadian website crashed this morning because of people that dusted their passports and started to seek asylum, all these miniature occurrences works in favor of or against Nigerians in some way, and tonyebarcanista asks why Nigerians should be concerned with what's happening there, yes we ought to because maybe our lives depend on it.

I can only describe that mofo as a desperate man for cheap recognition...
His arguments are always out of place.

Before the mofo was born, Nigerians has always participated in American politics.

4 Nigerians are even participants in this year election.

And someone somewhere is bringing his local political ignorance at display... who buhari epp?

In the us election we didn't hear of any thugs harassing voters or snatching ballot boxes, we didn't hear of money sharing on voting premises, we didn't hear of collation padding and all off the vices that fills Nigeria election space...

Let's give it a break, we have every reason to learn and participate from American election only egocentric foolish people won't get it.

Truthfully the world not Nigeria alone should be concerned about America's elections, heck!, America is currently the world power, any decision made may determine the fate of the blue planet for a very long time.

World trade, international relations, the events of wars will flutter for some time.

I think what Tonye is trying to say is that Nigeria citizens are taking it too personal, thinking with the emergence of Trump as America's president, Buhari will get punished due to the president's Muslim affiliation or global terrorism will be the supported if Hilary becomes president.

But they are so wrong, campaign is a thing, fulfilling your promises is another, you'll be surprised that Trump's vain braggadocio will be sedated immediately he gets his ass on that seat.

The best answer to tonyes post should have been why do Nigerians care about his beloved Barcelona versus Real Madrid.
Re: US Elections: A Reply To The Thread By Tonybarcanista. by peaceonearth(m): 7:53am On Nov 09, 2016
His main point is that Nigerians have little or no influence on the outcome of the Election. I believe we all agree to that. Where I dissagree is the point that we shouldn't be concerned about the elections. It is only sane for the world to be concerned about who occupies the most powerful sit on earth. Attention will shift to China same way when they eventually take over. Other African nations were on the edge of their sits as well during 2015 elections, because they can't handle the influx of refugees to their countries from an exploded Nigeria. Even the US was concerned as President Obama adressed Nigerians directly in a video message. With globalisation at its peak, an isolated incidence thousands of miles away may cost you your means of income (stocks are falling already in anticipation of Trump's win). That's our present reality.

Not that i support barcanista but the way nigerians are going about this american election is outragious. Here in south africa, they seem unconcerned about this US election. At my work place nobody discusses it. But everyday here on nairaland, nigerians create threads up and down about this election. We fight amongst ourselves, call eachother names about this election. Its pathetic.
