SENATORS from the South East zone who held a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari said they went to express their concern over issues affecting the region.

Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, led the senators to the meeting with Mr. Buhari in his office in Abuja on Wednesday.

Briefing State House correspondents’ shortly after the meeting, Mr. Ekweremadu said they especially raised concerns on the state of security and infrastructure in the south-east region.

“For us from the South-east, we believe that dialogue is better than any other form of engagement. So we decided to visit the President and present to him some of the concerns of the South East, including the issues of roads, general infrastructure, the rail and airports,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President said the delegation discussed the issue of insecurity in the South-east especially with regards to the activities of the Independent Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.

“We had a good conversation and he promised to look into the issues”, he said.

The Chairman of the South East Caucus in the Senate, Eyinnaya Abaribe, who also spoke with reporters said that the region was the most “short-changed” in the country.

He said Mr. Buhari promised to look into their complaints.

“We know that there are problems everywhere but we also believe that the south-east is the zone that is far more short-changed at this time than other zones.

“We also talked about the issue of appointments from the South-east, especially with respect to the National Security Council. The President also told us that governors of the South-east have also engaged him on the same problems,” Mr. Abaribe said.

The senator said leaders from the region would continue to engage with the government.

Other senators in the delegation include Sam Egwu, Hope Uzodinma, Andy Uba and Chukwuka Utazi.

Even without you people visiting, buhari knows the right thing so let him do it.

Dividends from a loan that should be paid by all sections of the country should also be distributed to all sections of the country.

Buhari will hear finish and still listen to his cows and Abba Kyari.

Senators, much as I commend you for this move, Buhary is a stubborn dictator and will continue in his evil ways. We know him.

who is fooling who among the easterners, between leaders from SE, Ipob & the lest of us Nigerians? otherwise how could leaders from the east be lobbying for right placement in the scheme of things while the Igbos be making noise bout BIAFRA. for Christ sake, these honorable gentlemen should go back and call their boys to order by themselves, otherwise we are sceptical about easterners.and can't trust them.

Anybody meeting Buhari becuase of Igbos is a hypocrite and lunatic, Ipob has not held any demonstrations in the past 4 months because of the the tendency for what Nigeria calls military to shoot at unarmed protesters , The major porblem of insecurity is fulani herdsmen and not IPOB youths.

And why is this coming on the day that Donald Trump won elections why did it not come last week or some few days ago. i hope these short sighted senators will not lead igbos into what i not good for generality of igbo race.

[size=13pt]Very useless visit.

You are visiting a vindictive bigot that still sees Nigerians as 5% that didn't vote for him and you think he will listen to you?

Buhari is plotting the breakaway of Arewa republic and does not care for constituent part of Nigeria nor the need to run an inclusive government for national unity.

Anyway, na una sabi. Speak for yourselves.

Enyi Abaribe should be specific as he has the worst Federal road in Southeast in his senatorial zone (aba ikot ekpene road) he campaigned with the road for first, second and even third term. I pity the inhabitants of these areas as there is no road there, from opobo junction to umuokpo has grown weeds that no one believes there was a road there, transport fare has rapidly increased over there in the last 2years with no remedy.

Abaribe should be sent packing from the red chamber
