Agribusiness receives a boost soon as takeholders in agriculture and Agro-Allied industry will converge in Ilorin, Kwara State capital for a six-day international agricultural exhibition otherwise known agricultural trade fair beginning on Sunday.

Major Agro Allied Industries and financial institutions that specialize in agriculture and agricultural development are expected at the exhibition organized by Harmony Holdings Limited, a private business entity of the Kwara State government in conjunction with the office Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Rural Water Support Services.

Declaring this at a press conference in Ilorin on thursday ahead of the agric trade fair, the Division Head of Agric in Harmony Holdings, Mrs Iyabo Amajo, said the agric fair was conceived to key into the policy of the state government on improved agriculture.

She noted that the state has become a centre point in the area of agriculture with fertile and arable land abound and that the fair will also afford Kwara to showcase its potentials in agriculture to the world and attract core investors and off-takers into the state.

Amajo announced that many big organisations will also storm the venue of the exhibition at Banquet Hall opposite, Government House, Ilorin with many equipment and other prototypes to be showcased to address observable problems in the agricultural sector.

“Exhibitors from around the country and abroad will be presenting innovations in Agric mechanization, access to improved seedlings and financing to farmers. It will be a platform for meeting potential business partners and attracting investment.

“The fair is coming at a time when the Federal Government is intensifying effort at diversifying the economy and guarantee food security and enable the growth of a multi-sectoral economy in view of the current harsh economic situation.

“It will provide an opportunity for a wide range of economic companies to advertise their products to both large and small scale farmers. It will be of benefit not only to direct and indirect suppliers of goods and services to the agricultural sector, but also for those involved in related industries or indeed any companies that wish to promote their business to a broad spectrum of the populace.

“It has several programmes lined up including an exhibition where producers, exhibitors, and innovators will showcase lastest products and equipment aimed at connecting them with buyers and investors.”

“Financial organisations will also be at the fair including CBN, which will showcase its Anchor Borrowers Programme that supports millions of small holders in rice production. Other commercial banks have indicated interest in featuring at the fair to showcase their agriculture portfolios”, she said.

Also the Special Adviser on Agriculture, Mr Anu Ibiwoye, who buttressed the points made by Amajo at the briefing, said the agric fair was designed to ensure food security, develop export and capacity for exchange.

He informed that the Agro Mall under his watch, was set up to meet the recurring needs of farmers in the state, just as he disclosed that a Help Desk had also been set up to provide assistance in all areas of needs in the agricultural sector.
