By Kennedy Dimaku, Abuja.Traders in Kubwa and its environs have been counting their losses and unspeakable suffering they are plunged into by the demolition of Kubwa village Market, Bwari Area Council of Federal Capital Territory, FCTby Development Control.This came at a time when the recession the country is witnessing is having untoward hardship on the citizens notwithstanding thatthe President Mohammadu Buhari-led federalgovernment has assured Nigerians of its commitment to alleviate the situation in due course.This situation would leave thousands of people who are dependent on the market to suffer and its concomitant problems. Narrating his ordeal, Mr. Ambrose Peter, a trader in the market said that he borrowed hundreds of thousands of naira to stockpile his shop with goods in readiness for the Christmas Season which terminates in December.He stated that the demolition of the market would plunge him into unanticipated huge debt which he would not know how to handle considering that he did not know how he would dispose of his goods to recover his money.Another trader who gave his name as Isah Jato said he would not be able to pay his children’s school fees as well as feed his family. Lamenting on the incident, he stated that his livelihood had depended on the market stressing that he had taken care of his both immediate and extended families. “The economy is biting hard when I was doing by business in the market. Now it is going to be worse since my source of incomehas been cut short.” He said with tears dripping down his cheeks.However, traders who decry the demolition ofthe market by Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) said that the exercise was not carried out with a human feeling. They posited that the Development Control would have allowed the traders end the season in December having stocked their shoes with goods in preparation for the festive period.
