your symptoms are enough information already.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by naijaking1: 4:13am On Aug 22, 2007
@pheesaymor

I agree you should go see an doctor. The value of what I tell you here is reduced, because I can,t listen to your lungs, palpate your abdomen, and even get an accurate weight on you. You said your weight, but didn't say your height.

So it's impossible to figure out your BMI. For all I know you may be obese, and that predisposes your to sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is basically an inablity to get enough restful sleep, because of too much fat on the chest wall. The patient is unable to get enough sleep at night, and resorts to short and intermittent sleep usually at the wrong places, ie while driving, taking a class or exam, at work, etc.

I'm afraid the so-called natural supplememnt may be killing you.
Most of them contain sympatomematics drugs like epinephrine, ephaderine, caffaine, etc which gives you a sudden boost of energy, but but keeps you wild awake. You see sympatomematics drugs are supposed to be produced by your body to enable you run away from from impending dangers-lions, area boys, and so on.

They increase your heart rate, tense up your muscles, dilate your pupils, and increase your rate of breathing. They do the opposite of the things you want while trying to fall asleep. They act on the heart, and have been know to cause heart problems if taken for too long.

Your option: loose weight, stop your natural supplement(there's nothing natural about it), condition yourself to sleep at least 6 hours a night.

The result will amaze you.

Good luck

@ naijaking, good diagnosis. His symptoms seem to resemble those of a sleep apnea patient - headaches, falling alseep during the day, tiredness.
He however doesnt indicate that he takes any sympatomimetics so that may not be a reason.

Pheesayor, as naijaking said, your best bet is to watch your diet and lose weight ASAP.
See a doctor if symptoms continue.

He did not have to indicate that he takes a vasoactive compund for you to suspect that his so-called Tre-en-en concentrate may contain such. Note there maybe no product labelling in naija.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 3:34pm On Aug 22, 2007
I am glad other doctors are helping with this forum. We just need a gyneacologist to give Attention advice. Since I am based in Scotland, I can't recommend a good gynaecologist in PH. This I assume is Port Harcourt.

Christie, the main thing about medicine is accurate diagnosis. Is your diagnosis of osteo arthritis accurate. If it is, you might want to try different anti inflammatories and maybe add something else like paracetamol to it

Hi Everyone,

I wanna appreciate ur concerns especially PTH nd naijaking, I'll work on lossing weight for a start. To correct one impression, the Tre-en-en grain concentrate contains mainly
Rice bran oil
Soya bean oil
Wheat germ oil

Others are

Wheat germ powder
Stabilized rice bran powder and
Vitamin E oil mixed with tocopherols.

It's a GNLD prodcut which is recommended for everbody because the cells need these things to stay alive. I posted the full info with the topic "Energy Crisis". Check it out and see what I mean.

Back to my condition, sleep apnea best fits my condition, much love to naijaking for that. From what I got from wikipedia, treating it might be quite expensive but I'll start with diet control and exercise but I get tired with my heartbeat doubling whenever I attempt to jog. What can I do about it and what do y'all think about Tre-en-en.

Navigate to https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-70861.0.html for my energy crisis article

Thanks again for the advices, I apreciate
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by PTH(m): 10:08pm On Aug 22, 2007
@ pheesayor, get your weight down ASAP. That is the only solution for now, the treatment for sleep apnea here is usually having to wear an oxygen mask to sleep. I doubt you can afford that right now.

Doctors, I did not see any response to the concerns raised by uchetobi. Could you kindly address that?

Thanks.

P.S: This was the concern raised by her:

Doctors well-done. More power to your elbows. I have a little question that is gynaecological related. Am 21(been seeing my periods for about nine years now) yes and I see my period like between 30- 35 days. That is its not regular. Unlike other girls I still can't say the specific day am expecting my period. Tho I can guess the week. 30-35 days also mean I get eleven period in a year instead of twelve.
Second and most pressing is that the 2nd / 3rd week after my period I get blood colored discharge. I actually think it may be ovulation but it lasts as long as 3 to 4 days and I don’t think ovulation lasts that long. Iv been too busy with work and all to see a doctor can you please tell me if my worries are in order

Thanx in advance

@pheesayor

What is GNLD?

If you think it's only the extracts of corn, wheat, and so on listed on the package of Ten-en-en that gives you energy boost whenever you take it, then I have a plot of land to sell to you in Florida swamp.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by pheesayor(m): 1:39pm On Aug 23, 2007
@naijaking, if u r a doc u should know that unhealthy cells causes unnecessary fatigue which means u r as healthy as ur cell. What tre-en-en does is feed ur cell with specific lipid component called sterols which is the missin link to wellnes cos it builds a healthy cell which easily lets nutrient in and waste out. Research shows that lipids and sterols are the basis for cellular nutrition and when ur cells are at their best, you'll definitely feel the difference.
GNLD(Golden Neo-life Diamite) is an American company that has been producing various nutritional supplements to fill the gaps that 'modern' day diet has created and also empowering ppl(thru network marketing) for almost 50 years now. I guess u should search the web for tre-en-en and see the wonderful results. Hope to hear from u soon.

@pheesaymor

I don't need to prove myself to you, my comments to you are intended to be helpful and would stop once I feel otherwise.

No GNLD is not a well know American company making suppliments, I know the top 10 American companies that do.

You're lecture on the histology and the importance of sterols are weak, and may explain why you maybe hurting yourself with a so-called energy suppliment.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by pheesayor(m): 10:55pm On Aug 23, 2007
@naijaking1
I didn't say I've been taking the supplement for a long time, I just started about a week ago and I felt a little difference, I recommended to some other people and they are thanking me for that.

U have been helpful to me so I won't want you to think otherwise cos I'll 4ever grateful for what you've been doing I'm just sharing my experience cos everyone that takes it always testifies to its goodness. Nevertheless, I've started walking(to subsitute for jogging) and with time I should shed some pounds.

I'll notify u of any progress,
Thanks a bunch!!!

@pheesaymor

Keep up your good spirit, loosing weight is not easy, but you can do it. Please understand, no harm intended. I get paid a lot of money giving people same advice I'm giving you here. Anything to help naija, no matter how small!

Going back to your GNLD, if it's from an American company, you can bet one thing. It's not FDA regulated, that means their product labelling don't have to be accurate. It's not inspected like drugs. These suppliments have been know to contain all sorts of undesirable elements that make people feel good on the short term and ill on the long term.

We used to have gbogbonishe those days, it was capable of curing malaria, typhoid, impotence, cough, female disease, lack of sleep, broken bones, mentrual cramps, ability to attract good husband/wife, safety from witches, etc, etc.

Products like GNLD are looked upon as not been too different from those local preparations.

For your information, sterol is a derivative of cholestrol, it is the building block of most nucleolar proteins, but the energy comes from the mitochondria, not the sterol. Sterol and cholestrol is usually elevated in fat people, so it could not have been the factor giving you a boost in energy.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by PTH(m): 12:37am On Aug 24, 2007
pheesayor! shocked Lipids and sterols are not the basis of cellular nutrition. Glucose is the key energy supplement for the cell. Sure your brain cells have the capacity to use ketones in the short term in the absence of oxygen but its for the short term and is dangerous.

I would follow naijaking's suggestions if i were u.

Dr. B, well done Sir.

My questions:
My skin is very thick. I had excision on my breast in April and the skin of the site is thickly raised (what Yorubas call "o re"wink. The surgery site itches and sometimes is painful to touch. What I can I do to (1) soften my skin generally? (2) take care of the raised cut surgery line?

Before I did the surgery I was having pinching sensations all over my body (internally). I was afraid it might be cancer. The biopsy result was benign and coincidentally the pinching stopped then only to resume last month. What can cause pinching sensation in one and what test can be done to verify the cause?

Thanks Doc, keep up the good work.

Zequisha:

Hi doc,
Is it okay for a pregnant woman to take green tee?
Thanks a great deal.

Green tea contains chemicals called polyphenols and other elements that may act as protective antiodants for various cardiovascular conditions. Many of these chemical work by stopping platelet aggregation and therefore keeps small blood vessels open- an action that maybe desirable for the heart, brain, and kidney.

In pregnancy, stopping platelete aggregation results in anticoagulation, and maybe dangerous. I would not recommend green tea, or any agent such as aspirin, NSAIDS, or warfarin in pregenancy without a strong medical indication and supervision.

Talk to your local OB/Gyne.
