Let me advice u on d best way to Go abt this.
First, d elders (umunna) and the women (umunwanyi) are ur worst enemies. They don't even like d fact dat u are getting married to dat girl Cox those they'd rather u come nd marry their own daughters. So don't even think of compromising their list esp if ur father in-law is Not one of them/ based in d village.
In order to avoid dem properly don't buy What they have written down just ask them d cash equivalent of their list dis gives u a negotiation edge. If u make d mistake of buying d things on d list and u forget a pin dey will Go as far as ruining ur wedding
Second, pay d dowry and do all negotiations a day b4 d wedding. this will help u save ur self d shame of being embarrassed b4 ur guest.
Third, the things of list for ur mother nd father in-law must Not b bought completely just buy d important one's.
finally, The umunna will treat u based on How u present urself. if u Go and start acting like a rich man dey will deal with u.
I am talking from experience

nice analysis there n how did you come up with all that

Yeah right tho, but not everyone is proud of their root. Those that attack other tribes based on their customs or traditions cannot tell u their root so u won't tell them what they are known for.
I got ur point my sister

who wan marry from arondizuogu I hear, though unconfirmed say virtually everyone for the village dey seriously into jujuism, I meant voodoo.

I wanted to ignore Ur comment but let me enlighten and educate u a little. Maybe u don't know Ur root or know anything about Ur culture(Too bad if u don't tho) Every Village have one festival or the other, Some do "Iwa akwa", "Ị gba Ofala" "Ịrị ji", "Oru Owerri" "ịgba mmanwu" etc. Calabar and Akwa Ibom have their own masquerade festival, Yorubas have their own masquerade festival and they have what they call it. Our own is "Ikeji" and its our own masquerade carnival! It's our Culture! It's our Heritage! I'm proud of my Culture! I'm proud of my root! I'm proud to be an Adamazi! People do a lot of show during the carnival just like the ones the Yorubas do when they set their masquerade on fire etc. Even the Whites do Halloween, it's their own Carnival. Don't be carried away by ignorant silly stories u hear from uninformed people so u don't sound as dumb as they sound. Asking who wants to marry from Arondizuogu is d dumbest comment I have ever come across. If anyone can judge Ur village based on Ur tradition or festivals, or based on what they hear, then feel free to call that person an idiotic slowpoke!

don't get me wrong here, he said to me in his words ''schuma don't try our people when it comes to jazz cus we are good at it and if you like ask anyone''..this came up cus i was arguing with him that his village is small n can't do anything.after that statement, i went n asked my dad n he confirmed it and also said they are lots rich people there

Exactly!
It is a show of a family's bargaining power grin grin

80%, more or less like you rightly said, of the things on the list goes to the community. Youths, Mothers and elders. Especially the soap, undies, and those small small things.

I love traditional marriages. I love that the bulk of what happens that door is indoors cheesy. Having families look over things on the list and what is presented, it's just beautiful cheesy.

that room where they negotiate is another thing entirely lol very funny room with voices going up n down, the girl n guy will just be confuse n tired

I think he's married. That's exactly what I did. Paid cash three days before my traditional wedding date. Only paid the dowry (ego isi nwanyi) on the D-day and that didn't take much time.

Those that brag and make such noise don't know anything about jazz my dear. I got Ur point. I won't tell u the origin of those things they call jazz and how it got to my village because it will involve mentioning some states and villages, and people from there won't like it. They might start an argument, u understand?. So ignore those things u hear from people. If we don't have anything like "Ikeji" festival, people won't know anything about us. It's that very festival that made people to know that there's a village called Arondizuogu. The truth is that, those that do, actually go out to get those magical powers they use to do show during our festival and that's all. It's not as deep as U think. U might have heard about Ichie Pericoma? What he did in Upper Iweka really made people to conclude such things exist

See them crying as if somebody forced you to marry the babe. The things you see on #thelist must not be completely bought. You liaise with your in laws and they will shied your interest and make things cheaper for you.

I seriously get pissed when I see people who are not from a particular region criticizing the culture and norms of other people.
Are the men from the east complaining? All this nonsense should just stop. If you can't marry an Igbo woman because of expensive list. HABA! There are places that marriage to their daughter is almost free. F...ing go there and stop over flogging this issue.

I'm not from Mbaise, but my girl is from there and anything can happen soon. I will be willing to pay double of everything that is on the list, cos she's worth it.

MrRitchie:
I was preparing for work this morning when my elder bro sent this (paper) to me via email.

I once heard if you want to marry a girl from the east you'll have to pay extra $€£¥

Ok, back to the matter, my bro is preparing for his traditional wedding anytime soon.

Below is the list of things they ask him to buy, after I was done with the calculations and all, I got a total of close to #500,000 just to buy things listed in the list.

Mind you the list doesn't include food, drinks, canopies, chairs just to name a few that will be used in the event.

I just said in my mind, Eku tracession wedding.
