From VAL OKARA, Owerri

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

A gang of dare-devil armed robbers numbering about 15 on Monday attacked four banks located in the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State and carted away undisclosed sum of money running into millions of naira.

The hoodlums who stormed the banks in commando like operations with two tinted jeeps had on arrival taken strategic positions and blocked the ever busy Owerri-Umuahia road at the popular Eke Ahiara junction.

With continuous heavy shooting into the air, which reportedly lasted for several hours to stir possible opposition from the security agents, the robbers eventually had their way and made away with their loots.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Alloy Okorie upon the receipt of the news of the robbery incident promptly cut short his meeting with top police officers at the command and personally led an anti robbery squad to the scene.

At the time of filing this report the CP and his team were said to have been combing Mbaise areas and its environs in other to arrest the hoodlums.

Also, the casualty figures could not be ascertained at the time of filling this report but sources said a number of casualties were recorded while the injured had been rushed to nearby hospital.
