This issue of marriage is even the fear I have with my current fiancee. She hails from Asaba where they speak an Igboid dialect. She is very good with her language so I have fears that if I marry her, my children may end up speaking Igbo, rather than Urhobo. However, whether I marry her or not, I have resolved to give all my children Urhobo names and take them home if I can. I am also going to employ an Urhobo teacher and I will personally speak Urhobo with them and enforce them to see Urhobo cartoons, movies, books, etc. They can also learn Igbo or any other language if they so wish but I must emphasise Urhobo as their mother tongue. There is a Professor from my village who married a Yoruba woman from Ilorin. His children are all lost. They bear Urhobo names but effectively identify as Yorubas. One even changed her name from Oghenetejiri to Temi. It makes me sad anytime I see them speaking Yoruba and rapping it. The man did nothing to contain the situation and today, his only legacy in their lives is the name they bear. https://www.nairaland.com/3359146/dearth-urhobo-other-niger-deltan/8 Frathymathy. I'm very much aware that that handle belongs to your gf. But I'm also aware that you have access to that handle and do as a matter of fact use it to comment many times on nairaland. You can just stop this here, cause there are so many more I can reveal. 4 Likes |

Again, I'm not going to jpin words with you. But just to clear things up, this thread was unusually civil (considering tthe topic of discussion) up until you issued the folloeing genocidal threat on page 6: thedarkside: It is very important to understand that you threatened igbos with genocide without any provocation. Thst was exactly how you got the thread derailed with the help of your partner. And the following is the post you reacted to. azienza: Again note that even in his first post, this guy mentioned Urhobo only once (unlike the Ijaw which he bashed severally though in a light mood). HE DID NOT AT ANY TIME (BEFORE YOUR THREAT) CALL URHOBO OUT FOR INSULTS; AND HE DID NOT SPECIFICALLY SAY THAT "THE URHOBOS WERE BITTER". And for that reason, as I told you earlier, those provocations were unwaranted. You could have called igbos names, they used to that. But threatening them with genocide? I rest my case. thedarkside: 2 Likes |

EternalTruths: You are still NOT listening (sigh). Non-Igbo groups such as the Urhobo (from what I have read so far), have not expressed any desire to go through a referendum. So why are you forcing one on them? In 2014, when Scotland wanted to conduct a referendum whether to remain in the UK or press for independence, it conducted a referendum but it was restricted only to those in Scotland. So since the Urhobo have not expressed a desire to be part of Biafra, why are you so intent on subjecting them to a referendum? Eligibility to vote To even get a referendum conducted, your SE legislators must raise the issue in the legislative chambers. This has NOT even been done. So why are you going on & on, about a referendum? 1 Like |
