NETHERLANDS FIRM EARMARKS €400 MILLION FOR AGRICULTURE IN BENUE A Netherlands based firm, Humanitarian Environment Project Company, HEPC is to invest 400 million euros in developing the agriculture value chain in Benue State. The Chief Executive Officer of HEPC, Mr. Wim Belt disclosed this at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, between the Benue State Government and his company. According to Mr. Belt, 5,000 jobs would be created from the projects. He said in the next three months, the company will put in place modalities to commence livestock production as well as fruits juice and wine processing. Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. James Anbua and that of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Dennis Ityavyar signed on behalf of the State Government while Mr. Belt and the HEPC representative in Nigeria, Dr. Uche Ibeh signed for the company. Speaking after the agreement, Mr. Anbua expressed delight that the operations of the company were in line with the vision of the Government to develop the state through investment in agriculture. He said the commitment of the Government in the MOU is to provide the land which has already been approved, saying that the people will benefit immensely when the project takes off. Also commenting, Professor Dennis Ityavyar assured the company that government would give it maximum cooperation including provision of security to enable it do business in the state without hitches. The Chief of Staff, Hon. I smell scam. Ortom is the worst governor ever known to man. An investment as much as 400million euro and the governor isn't there to take a million pictures?? Not even Benson. I'd take this news with a bag of salt. |

ebosie11:It just amazes me how dumb we have become to be giving away lands to foreigners and inviting them to expand their business here. Even promising to provide them with security. Couldn't this have been provided to locals? Running locals off the land of their birth and seeing this as development. First, we captured and sold our own people as slaves to the Europeans..... now we are inviting the Europeans to come and basically enslave us. We are the sole cause of our demise. |
