We often hear our 'gallant' security agencies rant about how they are on top of the situation, even when we all know the truth. They often claim credit for maintaining the peace and defending our unity with their lives. While this may be partially true, so often, the full story remains untold. One of our more silent heroes are our local vigilantes. From community units, to 'grazing marshalls' curbing the nefarous activitities of herdsmen in Ekiti, to 'Civilian JTF' fighting against Boko haram in the North-East. They risk their lives daily for very little reward othe than actually protecting their communities. For me, local vigilantes are a symbol of true sacrifice in these torrid times and I feel much safer knowing they are around. Appreciate that vigilante in your neighbourhood today.
