@eslynera: Angela's Ashes is a very good book. It depicts real poverty in the life of a person and the struggles of childhood. Its a real life story which is also humourous.

God's bits of Wood, by Sembene Ousmane, a writer from Senegal.

This book is just phenominal. I am reading it for a core class at school. Can't seem to put it down. grin grin
