Says army has reclaimed all Boko Haram strongholds

Imo governor praises the Nigerian army, says they have 'done the nation proud'


President Mohammadu Buhari has said that the Nigeria Army has recovered all the nation’s territories in the hands of terrorists, and has also to a large extent stabilized militancy operations in the Niger Delta region, adding that the nation has witnessed so much sacrifice from the Nigeria army in curbing terrorism and guarding the territorial boundaries of the nation.

The President who spoke at the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff’s Conference in Owerri on Monday, December 5, 2016, said, the army has been able to chase out the insurgents from their strongholds, adding that the Nigeria army must intensify their efforts and work closely with other security agencies to address the current security challenges in the country.

The President who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the federation, Engr. David Lawal commended the security agencies and the Nigeria army in Particular for their professionalism in the discharge of their duties and in sustaining the Country’s democracy, stating that the Conference would afford the Nigeria army the opportunity to re-strategize over the war against insurgency which the nation is already winning.
Engr. Lawal who had earlier paid courtesy call on governor Okorocha said that Governor Rochas Okorocha is one of the successful governors of APC in the Country and that the APC government at the Centre is aware of his achievements in the State, adding that the choice of Owerri for the Chief of Army Staff’s Conference must have been because of the Calmness of the State.

Governor Okorocha had in his speech gave kudos to the Nigerian Army for doing the nation proud, regretting that “often in our history, we intend to forget men and women who have signed off their lives to protect their nation. Anytime I see the Soldiers, I see nothing but men and women who have volunteered to spill their blood that this nation might be protected”.

Governor Okorocha continued “let me join millions of Nigerians to thank you sincerely for the great work you are doing in the North East. Posterity will ever remember your gallant effort. The success story so far recorded in the war against insurgency is highly commended”.

Chief of Army Staff, General Yusuf Buratai said the army had come to Owerri with all formations for the annual Conference of the Chief of Army Staff to review the past operations and chat on the way forward, adding that decisions will be taken at the end of the Conference on how best the affairs of the Nigeria Army could be managed in 2017.

General Buratai also explained that the army would back up operation python dance to ensure internal Security in the South-East States and provide necessary support in terms of provision of Security across the nation.
