Anyone embarking on a journey without a destination in mind is going to arrive at a destination he has no plans for.

Could you please paint a picture of the Nigeria you want to identify with-- regardless of what the past and present nation so called has been to you?

Kindly give practical clues, for example what you will experience differently from what you experience today at home, at work, in your industry or any area you are personally having challenges or you feel strongly about with the current Nigerian nation.

Firstly, as a nation I strongly believe we need to start seeing what we can become and not just what we are today. We can only truly move forward when we are not just running away from our past but running towards a future we prefer.

Secondly, we all are authorities in our own rights when it comes to our experiences in this nation. When we share from our experience, it brings topics to life and help us see how real the issues are that someone else may never have considered important.
In other words, it will help us see Nigeria from your own view-point.

Thirdly, I hope that the time will come when someone who reads your post and thereby feel what you have felt will be in the position to act on the idea(s) you share here. This can become a practical idea bank for anyone who takes Nigerians seriously.

A few constitutional reforms like ending allocation for fiscal federalism, recall NASS members, initiatives so people can summit bills, property and mineral right out of exclusive domain of federal government, LGA to have fiscal autonomy.

Increasing economic freedom, decentralize some of the power of federal government to states. Focus on industrilization and energy so Nigeria can become Undisputed hegemon of W.Africa.

A provision to gain citezenship in multiple states instead of state of origin.

Okay let me start. One out of many actually.

I feel strongly about a win-win employer-employee relationship. I believe that anyone who dares to start a company in Nigeria deserves to have very loyal employees and I also believe that a staff-first approach to business (which gaining international acknowledgment right now) is the best.

Wal-Mart, for example, is a global giant when it comes to the retailer's industry. The company took on, so to speak, another life when the staff we allowed to invest in the company and everyone knew that if they give their best, it is not just the employer that grows rich.

I feel very passionately about this, one because I hate seeing people being treated like (or even less than)things- "resources" they call them just like cash, furniture and buildings- and this is happening all over this nation.
Two, because I have met people who complained bitterly about there jobs (how they are overworked) but have no assurance of getting another if they resigned so they feel caged, helpless and enslaved in their own country- sometimes by foreigners. When they eventually retire, many people will start nursing chronic diseases that resulted from job stress but the employer will no more be there to foot the bills- if they ever did before (right now, a major percentage don't).

In view of the foregoing, I see a Nigeria where staffs in companies and organizations will see themselves as, act like and be treated as they really are (socioeconomically): PARTNERS, not resources or statistics.

Absolutely agree with you especially on local government autonomy and true federalism and industrialization.

I believe we will need a Senate to address related to foreign affairs, and other issues related to the generality of Nigeria. But that we State parliamentsdelegates should join as National Assembly when issues that can affect state operations need to be dealt with.

I know working conditions will get better as employment market and culture starts changing. Right now their lots of unemployment and general culture of nepotism and mistreating employees. I hear stories about how they treat female bank workers pretty much wanting them to do sexual acts to get accounts.

It seens too wild but anything could happen in Nigeria. Why would you invest in any financial institutions because the female staff can service you? Why would company demand staff to do that nonsense when they should focus on investing and banking services?

Before asking this question, you should have asked your self if the various ethnic groups that populate are compatible. Without compatibility, any endevour 2 or more people embark on is already a faliure.

a Nigeria where the deaf could hear, the blind could see and the cripple could walk

a Nigeria where ethnicity, tribe, religion and political affiliation shall know not be a yardsticks or barrier

a Nigeria where femi, emeka, and Audu will seat, walk and stand together without fear of envy, rancour or nepotism

a Nigeria where aboki, afonja and nyamiri will gracefully accept what they are and not what they were

a Nigeria where emeka can be governor in sokoto, Audu governor in ondo and femi in Enugu

more to come......

It's interesting to see how little attention a constructive thread like this is getting. Had it been about fomenting another tribal e-war, there would probably have been 20 times the number of readers by now. I think that says it all about the sort of audience Nairaland is attracting.

You cant say that. It is amalgamation that got us all where we are. It is amalgamation that created the framework we work on. It is also amalgamation that stole the sovereignty of the people.

Compatibility is very important because if you bring gun powder and fire together, the result is not likely to be a good one.

Re: Please Describe The Nigeria You Want To See. Solution Providers Only by Stalwert: 8:53am On Dec 10, 2016
I see a Nigeria where there is Equal Opportunity For All. A Nigeria that works for the rich and the poor. Where the same rewards or punishment is given to the highest and lowest amongst us for doing the same work. A merit driven Nigeria that justice reign.

To achieve these requires stronger checks and balance and strong institution that are governed based on clearly laid down rules, policies and regulations. We need a strong incentive system that reward public workers who are doing the right thing. We need a strong law enforcement drive to ensure public workers must be accountable for their actions. We need reeducation of all Nigerians to change their thinking and begin to know that they just like the government have a responsibility to do what is right and stand for justice.

Maybe if the mods made it frontpage, more would have given it attention.
And the the "Solution Providers Only" caption.. maybe we have more interested in talking about the problems than the solution because many are just about the pain they feel, not the way the nation can come out of its pains.

I hope Lalasticlacla will do something this time.
