An ex-banker’s desire to give his heart throb a dream marriage has turned sour. Olajipe Ogundipe, former staff of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) is now telling the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)all he knows about the N12.5million he allegedly stole to finance his wedding.

According to EFCC, Ogundipe who was working at the Lokoja branch in Kogi state debited the assets account of the bank with the said amount in separate transactions and made cash withdrawals from the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

Operatives who started investigating the case since September after it received a petition from the bank said it discovered that sometimes in March the suspect posted a debit entry of N450,000 to the assets account and credited the ATM with same value which was subsequently taken out in bulk cash from the ATM machine after close of business.

Further investigations revealed that other similar entries in excess of N12 million had been posted and withdrawn using the same tactic.

Olajide who confessed to the crime after his arrest said he spent the money to sponsor his wedding in 2008. He said he made the withdrawals, usually a minimum of N500,000 each time he loads the three ATM machines in Lokoja. “Thereafter, I will manipulate the posting to balance the account”, he confessed.

He said he joined FCMB in September 2008 after three years with a new generation bank in Abuja and he never kept the stolen money in the bank but in his brief case at his Lokoja residence without the knowledge of his wife who resides in Karu, Abuja.

EFCC received an FCMB draft of N9m dated October 22 from his lawyer Barrister Ibrahim Muktari while he had earlier paid N3.5m of the stolen money to the bank.

The commission said the suspect is to be arraigned soon.

Beacause of woman, this guy destroyed his career. What kind of wedding party will cost that much?. Doesn't he know that if he throws a very big party like Razaq Okoya , his employers will start wondering how he was able to afford it.
