The chieftaincy institution has been the major instrument that our forefathers used in administering the affairs of our communities,in the north for instance the institution is esterblished with the Emairs as the arm of affairs & the Igbos have the council of elders(Ndi'chie) & in the west, the Yorubas have the Oba (Alafin of Oyo) who functions as the administrative heads, other kingmaker known as Oyo-mesi & the Baales(village heads),all these major chieftaincy & traditional institutional structures held Nigeria from the begining. The legal system in the Oyo state judiciary provides a neccessary structure for the resolution of matters/disputes,however some chieftaincy disputants will not reach agreement through a collaborative process, these chieftaincy disputes need the coercive power of the state to enforce a resolution. The most common form of judicial disputes resolution is LIGITATION-This is initiated when one chieftaincy party files a suit against another, |
