Redecorating Tips Please! by jspade: 8:01pm On Nov 11, 2009 |
Hey pple! I'm kind of in a fix here. I recently moved into a room with lilac wallpaper. Inasmuch as I would like to change to a more masculine colour, I really cant be bothered spending the extra money and I haven't got the time. How can I work around this please? I need suggestions of what curtains and bedding to buy, or would I be better off stripping it for another shade? |

Are you male or female and what style do you lean towards eg traditional, modern, contemporary etc |

I think this could be a unisex room. Lilac is hard to make masculine when it is the anchor color. Does the wallpaper have a pattern or is it plain? |

Thanks Outstrip. It is just plain Lilac, no patterns or anything, Thank God! I am male, and I really don't know anything about style. Unfortunately. |

Are you renting and the landlord will not allow you to paint? Otherwise why don't you change the color? A can of paint is cheap and I painted some of the rooms in my house myself. I guess I need to know if you are in Nigeria first. |

No, I am not in Nigeria. The landlord doesn't really mind what I do. Its just the stress of stripping wallpaper and hanging more that I am trying to avoid. I have got quotes from painters in case I opt to do so, but thinking of spending all that money just on wallpaper is annoying! I guess I'm just being Ijebu. Plus, I might be staying here for just about a year or so. |

Abeg don't pay someone to do it. Just buy a can and plan a saturday to do it. In fact you can paint a nice sized room in less than two hours and it is fun too. I will put up some pictures I can find for you so you can figure out what style you like and how you can accessorize on lilac. I know wall paper can be a very trying task to remove and I would not recommend that either. You can definitely paint over wall paper though |

This room is sort of masculine. It is hard to make lilac masculine but if you swap those covers for black covers and hang art on the wall that have a dark background and accessorize with black all through then it might work and your girlfriend might not think you are gay LOL. So think dark furniture. If you think you do not want to spend too much now as this is a temporary place then go to a goodwill store and buy wood pieces that you can paint black. That won't cost much but can be a fun project. I will find more pictures |

Now this I love. It is not exactly lilac but it's in the family. Even with the flowers it still does not come off as a feminine room. Very sexy room. Is that Malcolm X in that picture. Love the picture too |
