In a year of shock results, Cristiano Ronaldo bucked the trend by claiming his fourth Ballon d’Or award this evening.

The Portugal and Real Madrid star has had an outstanding 2016 – winning the Champions League and Euro 2016 whilst scoring a bucket load of goals in the process – and had long been tipped to win the award above the likes of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez.

And, whilst the rest of the world had to wait until France Football’s official announcement on Monday evening, Ronaldo himself actually got his hands on the award last Thursday.



Almost as soon as the winner of the coveted award was revealed, L’Equipe’s television channel revealed footage of the moment Ronaldo got his hands on the trophy at a private ceremony at the Santiago Bernabeu


Whilst Ronaldo looked humbled by the honour, his celebrations were fairly mooted. After all, it would have been a major shock had he not won this year’s award considering the 12 months he has enjoyed.

However, the Madrid star’s own son was on hand to add a little bit of style to celebrations and, as you can see in the video below, he did so in the most 2016 way possible.
