Enugu—Chairman, South East Economic and Security Summit Group, SEESS, Prof. Barth Nnaji, has said governors in the zone are committed to security and economic development in the region.

He said the maiden security and economic summit scheduled for December 22 in Enugu, was organised as part of the governors’ determination to move the region forward. Nnaji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu, yesterday, that the summit was aimed at building peace and engendering progress and development in the zone. The former minister of power said the event would also address the real security and economic issues affecting the advancement of the region. Nnaji, who is the chairman of Geometrics Power Ltd., said the conveners were made up of top business, military, political, religious and community leaders from the region.

He said: “The summit has the full commitment and support of the governors from the zone and is endorsed by the Federal Government. “We hope to use the summit to identify the real issues affecting the peace and development of the region, proffering solutions and initiating a definitive course of action to addressing them.” Nnaji said that the summit would adopt pragmatic measures to address issues of growth and human empowerment in the region. “It will not be a mere talk-shop but a meeting where specific problems are defined and key areas of focus will include security, agriculture, infrastructure, health tourism, and financing the region’s economic programme. “Delegates for SEESS 2016 will be drawn from the leaders of the South East, Presidency, National Assembly, state governments and the diplomatic community,” he said.

He said that top local and international business leaders and investors, multinational corporations, bankers and financiers, the academia, security experts and others would also be in attendance. Nnaji said that governors from the zone had shown the desire to build a formidable economic integration in the area. “We are grateful to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for graciously accepting to host the event as well as all the other governors from for backing the initiative. “Their collective support underlines the huge significance of the summit not only for the region but for the entire nation,” Nnaji said. that is more reasonable than supporting that guy called Nnamdi, someone who could not country himself within the court room but want to lead millions of people. He forgot that as he is calling the whole world to see what Buhari is doing, he is also calling them to observe his own maturity level too.

Nnaji at the head of this thing gives it great credibility. A solid technocrat and intellectual, Nnaji gives confidence to Southeasterners who want to put their dollars into meaningful projects, but are wary of the compromised and unprincipled Southeast political class. Southeast wealth in the Global Southeast Diaspora is estimated at over $20 billion. Just a couple of years ago, Chinedu Echeruo, a high tech guru, sold his high tech firm to Apple for a cool $2 billion. Chinedu would probably invest some of this money in the Southeast, where his dad once served as VC at Imo State University during the Mbakwe Administration, with a guy like Nnaji, an award winning Professor of Robotics engineering, at the helm of SEESS. Nnaji must be given every support to succeed. He is for all intents and purposes now the Governor of the Southeast economy. The Southeast technocratic and intellectual classes must not hang him out to dry in his coming battles with the Southeast’s political prostitutes and Judases who would sell their brothers down the river for crumbs from the tables of the enemies of the Southeast. At last, the Southeast’s epileptic and incoherent economic machine is now in the hands of a solid guy. It’s a great day for the Southeast and kith and kin in Rivers and Delta states. - matt
