5 Signs It’s Time To Change Your Transport Company (part 1) by CHIBYKEGLOBAL: 10:01am On Dec 16, 2016
Whether logistics lies at the core of your business or is confined to your supply chain, its importance cannot be overestimated. In a fast-paced, global marketplace, the ability to move materials and goods quickly and efficiently is vital to both the wider economy and your own organisation.
Many companies choose to outsource their logistics to a transport company, thereby allowing them to dedicate their time and resources to focusing on their core competencies. Clearly this isn’t a decision that is taken lightly, and much thought and research goes into making a final choice.
But what if your current transport company is no longer up to the task? Here are five key signs that it’s time to find a new partner.
1. Deliveries are not on time, are incomplete, or damage rates are unacceptable
This situation is clearly a big problem. It doesn’t matter that your products are of the highest quality and are the best-suited to your customers’ particular needs - if they are not delivered on time, are delivered in the wrong quantities, or arrive damaged, it’s likely that these negatives will be the main thing your customers will remember about your business.
Even if logistics isn't your route-to-market, if deliveries from your suppliers arrive late and not to specification, this can have a domino effect on your ability to sell your goods to your end customers.
Of course, it’s very difficult to achieve a 100 per cent DIFOT (delivery in-full, on-time) rate as there are so many variables to account for, some of which will be out of your provider’s control. If your products and materials are being delivered late on a frequent basis, your reputation and potentially your entire business are being put at risk.

2. Staff are not easily contactable
Whether you have a pressing concern or a more day-to-day query, it should be easy to reach your transport company - for example, you might have a dedicated account manager you can contact. The quicker you can get in touch with your provider, the quicker any problems you encounter can be resolved.
If you are struggling on this front, alarm bells should ring. This situation will simply cause you unnecessary stress and hassle, which will eat into valuable time that you could be spending focusing on other aspects of your business.
