In our last week midweek meeting, a letter from the branch office was read. Previously they had received letters from brothers and sister asking if they could Participate in ponzi schemes like MMM. This is what the letter said.

The letter was addressed to all brothers in Nigeria alerting them on the dangers of ponzi schemes. It states that although there is no law or scripture that directly restricts witnesses from participating, it mentions other bible principles we must apply.

It mentioned that those who wish to participate should remember that each one will carry his own load. On the other hand, we are advised not to participate. Why? Because schemes like this promotes greed and love of money in individuals, things that will hamper our faith.

It also mentions that schemes like this that arose in the past have all crashed, so participating is risky. Introducing other witnesses to a scheme that we know will crash shows lack of brotherly love. Each one should show love to his brothers by not inviting them to participate in risky investments. It also mentioned that some who had invested in this in the past had lost their privilege of service in the congregation because they developed traits that are unworthy of a Christian.

So the overall message is to shun all ponzi investments as they are risky and only promotes greed and love of money.

So, when did congregational matters become a public topic for discussion? Is NL a field service group? Or regional convention?
