OWERRI—Imo State House of Assembly has ordered the immediate arrest of former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Kalu, and a critic of the Governor Ikedi Ohakim administration, Mr. Maximus Uba, for their alleged refusal to honour a series of invitation extended to them to appear before the lawmakers.

The development followed the unanimous resolution of by the House, when the report of the Chief Samuel Anyanwu ad-hoc Committee was read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Chief Goodluck Opiah.

The lawmakers expressed dismay that Kalu and Uba had refused appearing before them to answer to the allegations of financial misappropriation, they recently leveled against Governor Ohakim.

To ensure the duo’s arrest  the lawmakers directed the Clerk of the House to take appropriate official measures to contact the Inspector-General of Police, the Imo State Commissioner of Police and the Assembly’s Sergeant-At-Arms to carry out the directive.

It will be recalled that last week, Kalu apologised to the House for his inability to honour their invitation on November 10, following his trip overseas on the invitation of the Catholic Pontiff.

Kalu, who wrote the lawmakers through his lawyer, promised to appear before the House as soon as he returned  and a convenient date fixed for him.

The letter read, “our attention has been drawn to the public notice in the media, summoning our client to appear before the Imo State House of Assembly on November 10, 2009, to testify on the on-going House probe of financial misappropriation improvident against the Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim”.

“As an astute believer in the rule of law and out of difference to the stunning of the House, we regret to inform you that our client will be unable to honour the invitation today as he is presently out of town. We shall inform you accordingly, as soon as our client returns to the country so that we can schedule the date and arrange acceptable modalities for the invitation that will suit all the parties concerned in the matter”, the letter added.

Ohakim is trying to engage the latter part of his tenure in a friutless wide goose chase.
I guess they ve completed the loop,it's now PDP all the way,now they want to engage in the usual distraction they are known for while they pillage the state's Treasury.
