Whether evil, disturbed, or just plain mental, The World seems to have both a repulsion and fascination with the lives and minds of evil serial killers. Who are these serial killers and what motivates them to take the life of another human being? We really don’t know. But what we do know is that as humans, we are capable of some gruesome things. Take these torture devices which are meant to inflict the most pain possible . What sort of mind comes up with such terrible devices for the specific reason of torture? Serial killers in desguise maybe? Who knows. These are 15 of the most evil serial killers of the 20th Century 15 . David Berkowitz davidberkowitz.wikispaces.com Known as the Son of Sam or the .44 Caliber Killer,And honestly one of my favourite. David Berkowitz carried out a series of shootings in the summer of 1976. Using a .44 calibre Bulldog revolver, he shot six people dead and wounded seven others. Berkowitz sent a series of taunting letters to police and the press promising further shootings, terrorizing the people of New York City. Eventually captured in August 1977, Berkowitz confessed to all of the killings and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for each murder. It is unlikely that Berkowitz will ever be release

14. Aileen Wuornos On one hand, I can understand that traumatic experiences can lead to disturbing behavior. Still…. Aileen Wuornos is the first female serial killer on our list here, and she’s an example of someone who was (or who claimed to be) traumatized, leading to the murders of several men. Victims: Wuornos killed 7 men between the ages of 40 and 65. Kill Zone: Florida, United States Methods: The murders were committed with multiple gun shots. Motives: Wuornosclaimed that the men she killed had raped her (or tried to) while she was working as a prostitute.: Wuornos was executed by lethal injection on October 9, 2002.

. Alexander Pichushkin Alexander Pichushkin is a Russian serial killer known as “The Chessboard Killer.” Unlike some killers who have almost understandable motives (such as being abused or tortured themselves in some way — not that it excuses anything), Pichushkin is a whole different level of crazy. He killed for the competition of it. Methods: Most of Alexander Pichushkin’s victims were killed with hammer blows to the head. He preferred to strike them from behind supposedly to avoid spilling blood on himself. He then threw some of his victims into the sewers. Motives: It is believed Pichushkin considered himself to be in competition with another serial killer — Andrei Chikatilo. At one point he mentioned that his “goal” was to kill 64 victims — enough to fill the squares on a chessboard, hence his nickname. Outcome: Pichushkin was convicted on October 24, 2007 to life in prison, including 15 years of solitary confinement. Additional Information: Pichushkin has been quoted as saying “For me, life without killing is like life without food for you…. I felt like the father of all these people, since it was I who opened the door for them to another world.”He was kept in a glass cage during his trial. 1 Share

Jack the Ripper Jack the Ripper might be famous, but he’s still relatively unknown. His identity has never been discovered. In fact, the murders attributed to him might not have even been committed by the same person. But Jack the Ripper makes my list of some of the most disturbing serial killers in the world because, real or not, the lore surrounding those Whitechapel killings went a long way towards solidifying the image of the sinister serial killer in many of our minds — an image that might even be dangerous, given the socially charming nature of others. Methods: Victims’ throats were slit and their abdomens were mutilated. Additional Information: A letter supposedly sent to the media from the killer ignited a media frenzy around the image of Jack the Ripper. 1 Like 2 Shares |

11. Ahmad Suradji The idea of ritualistic serial killers on one hand baffles me and on the other hand fascinates me. They’re a reminder that the world is full of different cultures where different practices are considered acceptable than here in the West. But Ahmad Suradji doesn’t seem to be following any kind of cultural norm. Instead he just sounds deranged. At the same time, I have to admit it’s one of the more “interesting” excuses or motives I’ve ever seen. Here’s more on Indonesian serial killer, Ahmad Suradji. The killings Methods: Suradji buried his victims up to their waists and strangled them with a cable. Motives: Suradji conducted ritual killings. He claimed to be told by his father’s ghost in a dream that by killing these women and drinking their saliva, he would become a mystic healer. Outcome: Ahmad Suradji was found guilty on April 27, 1998 of his crimes and was executed by firing squad on July 10, 2008. 1 Share

10. JOHN GEORGE HAIGH wikipedia Known as the “Acid Bath Murderer” John George Haigh was an English serial killer during the 1940s. He was convicted of the murders of six people, although he claimed to have killed nine. A professional con man, he targeted wealthy individuals and charmed them into believing he was a successful businessman. He lured his victims to a derelict warehouse before shooting them. He then dissolved their bodies in sulfuric acid before forging papers in order to sell their possessions and collect their life savings. In spite of the absence of the victims’ bodies, there was sufficient forensic evidence to convict Haigh of murder. In 1949 he was sentenced to death and hanged at Wandsworth Prison

6. TED BUNDY Okay. So Ted Bundy is another pretty well-known serial killer. But cutting off and keeping the heads of victims definitely puts him in my list of seriously disturbing serial killers. Methods: Bundy’s victims were beaten then strangled. He was also guilty of rape and necrophilia. Outcome: Bundy faced execution by the electric chair in Florida on January 24, 1989. Additional Information: Bundy tended to kill women that resembled his fiancé and had similar hair styles. But because they were physically different in other ways, Bundy denied a resentment towards here was part of his motive.

4. Pedro Rodrigues Filho wikipedia Pedro Rodrigues Filho is a Brazilian serial killer. Arrested in 1973, he was later convicted in 2003 for murdering at least 71 people and sentenced to 128 years in prison (although Brazilian law system prohibits anyone from spending more than 30 years behind bars). 3. Dr Harold Shipman wikipedia Dr. Harold Fredrick Shipman was a English doctor and is one of the world’s most prolific serial killers in recorded history, proven to have been responsible for up to 250 murders. A trusted doctor, he was well respected in his community, however colleagues and local undertakers began raising concerns over the high death rate in the area and the large number of cremation forms for elderly women that he had countersigned. Several bodies were later exhumed and postmortems revealed diamorphine within their system. It was later established Shipman had purposely injected fatal doses of the drug in a huge number of patients, causing their death. He then forged their wills so he could inherit large sums of money and completed cremation requests to destroy the victim’s bodies. The trial judge sentenced him to 15 consecutive life sentences and recommended that he never be released. Shipman later hanged himself in January 2004 in his cell at Wakefield Prison.

1. Zodiac Killer What can I say? I find unknown serial killers to be rather disturbing. Are they still out there? I don’t know. But that’s why the well-known Zodiac Killer makes my list. The thought that these monsters could evade arrest gives me the willies. Victims: The Zodiac Killer has 7 confirmed victims (5 dead and 2 survivors). However some believe the killer has as many as 37 victims. Kill Zone: California, United States Methods: Victims were killed via stabbings and shootings. Various cases were linked because of the Zodiac letters sent to newspapers. The letters included strange symbols and ciphers, some of which are still unsolved. They also included lines such as “Me=37, SFPD=0,” announcing 37 victims for the killer and no points for the police. The letters date from August 1969 to 1974 (last confirmed). Motives: One deciphered code claimed the thrill of killing was a motive, as well as talking about the victims serving as his slaves in the afterlife.

Another Notable list Stephen Akinmurele was a suspected serial killer , of Nigerian descent, charged with murdering five elderly people between 1995 and 1998. The case is noted for Akinmurele's long-standing hatred of elderly people. Akinmurele committed suicide before his trial though confessed to a number of the murders. Police believe he may have also been responsible for two further killings. [1] All of the victims in the case were elderly with the lead investigator in the case noting that Akinmurele had a " pathological hatred" of old people. He was dubbed " cul-de-sac killer" due to his choice of elderly victims living in quiet suburban streets. Akinmurele had a history of mental illness and had committed crimes against the elderly from the age of 11. [2] He was drawn to situations in which he would encounter the elderly with the police asserting he got a "kick" out of killing old people. [3] Akinmurele killed himself in Manchester Prison in August 1999. In his suicide note Akinmurele admitted to the crimes, saying that he regretted them and feared he would kill again. [4] He had also earlier admitted to three other killings of younger victims, though police believe the confession to be false and an attempt to mask the ageist motivation behind his crimes. [1] Eric Boardman, one of the victims, received a posthumous award for his bravery in defending himself and his wife from Akinmurele. Boardman's actions caused vital evidence to be left at the scene by Akinmurle, enabling the police to trace him through his fingerprints. [1] |
