Between Nigerian Politicians and The Masses: One identical feature

Nigerians cease to realise the lucid fact that in thought we are equivalent to the politicians we curse, praise and abuse on daily basis. There are however three fathomable differences projecting them to be more superior than the citizenry while one unfair attitude coexists in both parties which demands transformation at the grassroot level.

Take it or leave it, President Buhari, former President Jonathan, Obasanjo and many other leaders were not born with "silver spoon" which means they were once among average or poor ones who complained and condemned the leaders of their time before being blessed with wealth, fame and power, which are the clear differences between politicians and the citizens. Many Nigerians have descended harshly on one or two of these politicians because of their attitudes and inability to save the masses from the mud of poverty.

This is not an avenue to praise or condemn their personalities or actions but to make average Nigerians re-examine and cleanse their thoughts and deeds before they are bestowed with power, fame and wealth. You are a boss of your business, harvests your products at your backyard, sells it at an inflated price to your customers, gets excessive profit and eventually hide under the disguise of other inflated price of commodities affected by the naira depreciation against dollar. Can you escape rain of curses or condemnations when you are bestowed the power to manage a huge business or clusters of diverse set of human across Nigeria?

Exploring the background of some of the leaders stated, Goodluck Jonathan originated from a poor family of canoe maker in Otueke of Ogbia Local Government, Bayelsa State. He was named “Goodluck” with the hope that he would change the fortunes of the family (Wikipedia, 2016).

Olusegun Obasanjo "could not bear college expenses, in 1958 he joined the Nigerian Army and went to Aldershot, England, to attend a six month training of the ‘Service Commission’ held at the ‘Mons Officer Cadet School’.", TheFamousPeople revealed. He was brought up in Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

President Muhammad Buhari is the twenty-third child of his father. He was raised by his mother after the demise of his father at four (4) years old in Daura, Katsina State. In 1961, he enrolled in the Nigerian Military Training College (NMTC) now NDA, Nigeria Defence Academy after which he also underwent officer cadet training at Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot in England (Wikipedia, 2016).

These are few facts to buttress the affirmation that Nigerian leaders were once among average and poor masses plunged into poverty to hustle for survival. The Self-centered attitude in politicians is an identical feature which corresponds with that of the masses.

This lone-feature, often nutured from childhood, becomes a norm and habit when we mature to be leaders and it eventually drives us to care less for the survival of the masses being governed. The self-centered attitude meant here occurs when we become more concerned about harnessing wealth extravagantly to improve our standard of living at the expense of the people we serve and against their will.

Therefore, it's onus on us to suppress the unprogressive attitude of self-centeredness right before we attain the realm of power or become a politician/leader.
