Misconduct: NJC no longer effective to regulate, rid the bench of crooks–Ex-CJN
A former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Dahiru Musdapher, on Tuesday declared that the business of cleansing the judiciary of crooks can no longer be effectively handled by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Justice Musdapher said it was so because with the rising tide of malfeasance on the bench, NJC appeared to have lost control of regulating the judiciary.

Musdapher who spoke at an Administration of Justice Summit organised by the Jigawa branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Tuesday in Dutse consequently said there was an urgent need to establish an independent agency that would be responsible for judicial discipline and enforcement of the Code of Conduct for judicial officers.

He said the unfortunate truth emerged more than five years ago while he was still serving on the bench, saying the NJC cannot just cope again.

He said he had previously advocated the need to establish an independent agency that would be responsible for judicial discipline and enforcement of the Code of Conduct for judicial officers if the respect and honour that used to complement the judiciary must return.
